Based on a manga series written by Ryousuke Takeuchi and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi, ‘Moriarty the Patriot’ or ‘Yuukoku no Moriarty’ is a period mystery adventure romance TV anime. It depicts the eponymous character as an antihero who wants to usher in radical reforms in Victorian England and is willing to go to any length to accomplish his objectives. His perpetual enemy, Sherlock Holmes, is part of the narrative as the deuteragonist, who gradually realizes the influence and power that Moriarty has garnered as the Lord of Crime.

Moriarty the Patriot Season 3 Release Date
‘Moriarty the Patriot’ season 2 premiered on April 4, 2021, and aired 13 episodes before concluding on June 27, 2021. Studio Production I.G developed the series, with Fumi Morihiro serving as the producer. Kazuya Nomura helmed the production as the main director, and Taku Kishimoto led the writing staff. No official statement has been yet made confirming or denying the development of the 3rd season. The final 2 episodes of season 2 are the adaptations of the 9 chapters (48-56) of the original manga series. Both the episodes and chapters are titled ‘The Final Problem’ and are segregated into acts.
In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s ‘Sherlock Holmes’ stories, ‘The Final Problem’ (1893) is the short story in which Holmes confronts his greatest nemesis, Professor Moriarty, and both of them seemingly fall to their deaths at the Reichenbach Falls. Doyle had grown weary of his greatest creation and wanted to give him a grand send-off. And ‘The Final Problem’ did just that. However, the sheer negative reactions of readers eventually convinced him to bring the great detective back. ‘The Adventure of the Empty House,’ a short story that came out in 1903, is set after the events of ‘The Final Problem.’
Takeuchi and Miyoshi have decided to follow Doyle’s example and continue to tell their story. Moreover, they have brought back William James Moriarty along with Sherlock. Chapter 60 of the manga series is set to come out in July 2021. It will take some time for the manga to build up enough material for another season. Ultimately, it all depends upon how many copies of Blue-ray/DVD the second season sales. Considering all this, it can be speculated that ‘Moriarty the Patriot’ season 3 may come out sometime in 2023.
Moriarty the Patriot Season 3 Plot: What Can It Be About?
In the season 2 finale, William begins the final phase of his plan with Sherlock’s help. Their actions seem to eradicate the class barrier between the rich and poor of London and give them a common enemy in William. The final confrontation between William and Sherlock takes place on top of the Tower Bridge and ends with both falling into the River Thames. As they freely descend, Sherlock takes William into his arms. Their respective associates continue to live on, hoping that they will be able to preserve the world that Moriarty and Holmes created. The season concludes by showing them alive and reuniting in Switzerland.
In the prospective season 3, the next story arc from the manga, ‘The Adventure of the Empty Hearts,’ will likely be depicted. It might show that a new era has begun at MI6 under Louis’ leadership. The season will probably introduce a new character, Billy the Kid. The plot will likely revolve around Ronald Adair and the blueprint for a submarine. William and Sherlock might find themselves in America in the next season.
