Jake Gyllenhaal played the titular role of Donald ‘Donnie’ Darko in the 2001 Indie cult hit, Donnie Darko. Though, he made his acting debut in the lesser known 1991 drama, City Slickers, it was Donnie Darko, that paved the way for Jake Gyllenhaal’s stardom. He then went on to act in movies like Zodaic, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Nocturnal Animals which further increased his recognition.

 

4. Mio in the Land of Faraway: Christian Bale

Christian Bale’s started out his movie career as a child actor in two films that released in the same year: Mio in the Land of Faraway and Empire of the Sun. While the former didn’t garner much acclaim, the latter put Bale on the road to stardom. Bale’s breakthrough role as an adult came when he starred as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.
