The third season of Netflix’s ‘My Life With the Walter Boys‘ puts Jackie Howard back into the chaos of the Walter family while she tries to navigate her complex feelings for Cole and Alex. In the second season, Jackie and Alex tried to make things work, but her feelings for Cole got in the way of her giving Alex her heart completely. Eventually, she and Cole confess their love for each other, and Alex overhears. The possible confrontation is interrupted by Alex and Cole’s father, George, suffering a stroke and being hospitalized. While that puts a pin on things for a while, it doesn’t entirely resolve the issue. SPOILERS AHEAD.
My Life With the Walter Boys Plot Synopsis
Following their confession of love, Jackie and Cole start considering giving their relationship a chance. The timing, however, doesn’t seem to agree with them. With George still in the hospital, the idea is shelved. In the meantime, they both have a chat with Alex, who reveals the revelation, and his manner wasn’t ideal; he is not going to spend his life sulking for someone who doesn’t love him back. It is time for him to move on from Jackie, and he does so by giving his blessing to her and Cole. When George comes home and things start to normalize a bit, Jackie and Cole decide that there will never be a better time for them to be together. They don’t necessarily keep their relationship a secret, but they decide not to advertise it either.
As weeks pass, Jackie and Cole seem completely in love, and everything seems perfect for a while. But then, Grace’s birthday party goes awry, leading Jackie’s uncle, Richard, to wonder if his niece is falling into a bad spiral. He thinks Cole is a bad influence on her, and after a while, Cole starts to think the same. Meanwhile, Alex turns his attention towards rodeo, but he struggles to connect with the older cowboys who want him to come to barbecues and parties, drink beer, and get matching tattoos. Eventually, he decides that perhaps rodeo isn’t for him, at least, it isn’t for him at the moment. He decides to take a break and focus on other things, including his friendship and his developing feelings for Kiley.
Meanwhile, the rest of the family members also have a lot on their plates. Katherine is worried about George and overwhelmed by the task of caring for her husband, children, their ranch and animals, and her own job. This doesn’t last long as everyone shoulders some responsibility. But while they take on the chores, their complex relationships keep her and George on edge. Meanwhile, Hayley reveals she has a job in Atlanta, which means she and Will will be moving away. Danny and Erin hit a new snag in their otherwise loving relationship. Richard finds romance with Tara while struggling to connect with Jackie. Things also shake up a bit with the arrival of Isaac and Lee’s mother, Hannah.
Does Cole Die?
In the first season, it was revealed that Cole was a star player, primed for a scholarship that would have set up his entire life. But then, he suffered an accident that messed with his knee so much that he could not return to the game. Since then, he has been trying to find something that excites him, and in Season 3, it turns out to be drag racing. He had always been interested in cars, and his work at Tony’s auto shop helped him understand them better. One day, a customer named Mac walks in and is so impressed by Cole’s skills that he introduces him to a sport that could change his life. Despite the element of danger in it, Cole decides to give it a go, and sure enough, he displays a real talent for it.
At first, everything goes well for him, including his relationship with Jackie. But then, Richard and Eliot point out that he is ruining Jackie’s life by distracting her from her goals. So, Cole breaks up with her. He thinks it was necessary, but his heart is broken too, and his anger comes out in different ways, one of which is to abandon his promising career in drag racing. Eventually, however, he comes to his senses and decides to resume the track. In the end, he enters the competition where he is pitted against Danvers, another talented racer, who has a lot riding on the current race. The winner will get a grand cash prize, and Danvers knows he is poised to win. But then, Cole withdraws from the race at the last moment after getting Jackie’s text.
Earlier, Alex told him that he should not be the one to decide what’s good or bad for Jackie. Even his parents assure him that Richard and Eliot are not the authority to determine who Jackie should be with. So, when he gets Jackie’s text right before the race, a light bulb goes off in his mind, and he realizes that he must go to her immediately. But when he abandons the race, he forgets that Danvers loses his chance to win, which means he will not get the prize money. In his anger, he chases Cole to the point that the Walter boy’s car suffers an accident. This doesn’t mean Cole is dead, but it does mean that he has suffered another major injury. He will likely spend the majority of the next season recovering from these injuries, but it is safe to say his story has not ended just yet.
Do Jackie and Eliot Get Together?
While Cole suffers an accident and is left by the side of the road, fighting for his life, Jackie is entirely unaware of his predicament. Like most other teenagers, she is at the 1920s-themed party at the community spot she worked so hard to build. She’d almost lost the place to never-ending renovations, but then Cole got Richard to pitch in, who brought in everyone else. This expedited the repair process to the point that Jackie was able to hold the place’s grand opening on time. It isn’t until much later that Alex tells her that it was Cole who pushed Richard to help her, which leads her to text Cole right as he is about to race. While he decides to make his way to the party, forfeiting the race, Jackie has no idea he is headed towards her.
At the time, she is busy enjoying the exploits of her hard work with Eliot. He is her childhood friend from New York, whom Richard brings to Silver Falls as his intern. It is, in some ways, an attempt to remind her who she was before she lost her parents and had to come to leave New York. Sure enough, Eliot’s presence shifts something inside her, causing tensions between her and Cole. However, while Cole and even Grace believe this tension stems from the romantic undercurrent in Jackie and Eliot’s friendship, it means something else entirely to Jackie. For her, however, the connection seems more about someone who feels similarly about what she wants for her future. In all of this, it also becomes clear that Eliot has feelings for her, but he doesn’t act on them because Jackie is with Cole at the time.
It is when he discovers they have broken up that he makes his move at the party. In the last scene, while they are dancing to the song that they used to dance to as children, he kisses her. At the same time, Cole’s car crashes and the season ends, leaving everyone wondering if Jackie reciprocated the kiss. Whether she kisses him back remains to be seen, but with her still caught up in her very deep feelings for Cole, it is unlikely that their romance, if it even happens, will last very long. Still, the kiss might push Jackie to consider some deep, hidden emotions for Eliot, which may be influenced by her breakup with Cole. This means we might see her consider being with Eliot. But at the end of the day, he is not her endgame.
Do Kiley and Alex Get Together?
For the first two seasons of ‘My Life With the Walter Boys,’ Alex was so busy with his complicated romance with Jackie that he missed what was right in front of her. It isn’t until the Season 2 finale that he realizes he will never have what Jackie has with Cole, so he decides to back off. This allows him a clarity that leads him to reconsider his friendship with Kiley. Her feelings for him had been confirmed earlier, but when he prioritized Jackie over her, she decided to move on, especially after she found romance with Dylan. At the end of Season 2, she and Dylan decide to pursue a relationship. It is a surprise for Alex, but it takes him a while to realize that the sinking feeling he had when he discovered his best friend had a boyfriend was actually because he, too, feels something for Kiley.
These hidden feelings surface in the penultimate episode, when Alex kisses Kiley at her house after helping her find her missing grandma. At this point, he is the only person with whom she can talk about her grandma and other problems at home. Even Dylan has not been invited to her house, and when he finds out that Kiley has shared it all with Alex, he starts to feel a little insecure. He also suspects that there might be something more between his girlfriend and her best friend. After the kiss, Alex apologizes to Kiley, calling it a mistake, which makes her feel even worse. By the time Alex realizes what he has done and tries to fix it, things have already soured between him and Kiley. To make things worse, Dylan tells him to give her some space for a bit.
But after Jackie’s part at the community center, Alex goes to Kiley’s house to clear things up with her. But then, he discovers that Dylan is there too, which means Kiley has finally opened up to her boyfriend. Now, Alex is not the only one privy to her most personal things, indicating that Kiley and Dylan have taken another major step in their relationship. This is bad news for Alex, who had come to her door to express his love. Instead, he is forced to keep his mouth shut, though Dylan knows exactly why he was there. With this new love triangle being established, the next season will likely focus on Alex pining for Kiley. However, it remains to be seen whether she will give him a chance and give up the good thing she has with Dylan. Or, if she decides that her relationship with Dylan is too good to give up for the chance of exploring what she may or may not have with Alex.
