My Roommate is a Gumiho Season 2: Everything We Know

Studio Dragon’s ‘My Roommate is a Gumiho’ is a fantastical tale of two star-crossed lovers brought together by an odd twist of fate. Shin Woo-yeo (Jang Ki Yong) is a male gumiho, a mythical creature found in Korean legends, also known as the nine-tailed fox. After a never-ending period of relentless persistence, he is about to turn into a human when a young college student named Lee Dam (Hyeri) shows up and turns his entire world upside down.

To get Woo-yeo back on track, both of them need to find a solution together. Based on an eponymous webtoon, this intriguing love story between a human and a gumiho has significantly increased the global fanbase for K-drama. Now that the first season is over, you must be wondering if the show is returning with another season. In that case, here’s everything we know about ‘My Roommate is a Gumiho’ season 2!

My Roommate is a Gumiho Season 2 Release Date

‘My Roommate is a Gumiho’ season 1 released on May 26, 2021, on TVN, and also on iQIYI shortly after its television broadcast. It concluded its run on July 15, 2021. The first season has 16 episodes in total, with each one having a runtime of around 70 minutes. This affectionate love story stood up to the expectations of the fans mostly because of the electrifying chemistry between the leads Jang Ki Yong and Hyeri, who bear a stark resemblance to the popular characters of the webtoon it is based on.

As far as the next season of the show is concerned, here’s everything we have found out. At this moment, there has not been any official update confirming its renewal. On the day the first season ended, there was a sharp increase in the percentage of viewership, with an average nationwide rating of 4.0 percent. A response like that indicates that viewers want the home network TVN to consider expanding the story into the next season.

In the finale, we witnessed Woo-yeo’s rebirth as a human being and his subsequent reconciliation with Lee Dam. The conclusion means that the series will not have much left to explore if the prospect of another edition enters the picture. Hence, it is unlikely that ‘My Roommate is a Gumiho’ season 2 will ever get made. Moreover, you must know that Korean shows generally do not extend beyond one season. A few exceptions to this rule are shows like ‘Love Alarm’ and ‘Hospital Playlist,’ which were individually renewed for another season owing to their skyrocketing popularity and scope for continuation.

It has been reported that the decision to continue creating more episodes of ‘Hospital Playlist’ wasn’t made by Netflix, but its broadcaster TVN, which also houses the first season of ‘My Roommate is a Gumiho.’ So we can’t entirely rule out the possibility of its return either. If it does get greenlit, the second season is bound to do well because of its massive fan circle that is insatiably hungry for more episodes. Until we get an official update, the only thing left for us to do is rewatch the first season of ‘My Roommate is a Gumiho’ and revisit your favorite characters.
