Netflix Reveals ‘GLOW’ Season 3 Premiere Date & First Look

Netflix has revealed the premiere date and first look images for the upcoming third season of the acclaimed female wrestling comedy ‘GLOW.’ The third season, which consists of 10 half-hour episodes, debuts on August 9, 2019, reports THR. The first and second seasons of the series, which were inspired by the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, chronicle the life of Ruth Wilder (played by Alison Brie), a struggling actress in the backdrop of 1985 Hollywood.

A desperate Ruth finds her last chance of survival in the gritty world of women’s wrestling. She gets other 12 Hollywood outcasts for company. The debutante wrestlers meet their competitor Debbie Eagan (played by Betty Gilpin), a washed-out soap star who struggles to find work after a disenchanted episode of family life. The other contender is Sam Sylvia (played by Marc Maron), a former B-movie director and the leader of the women wrestling team. At the end of season two, the women wrestlers are seen embarking on a journey to Vegas to find their fortune in a live nightly show.

“We didn’t think Vegas was a purely optimistic place. It’s a place that, at least for us, makes our hair go up on our arms as in, ‘Oh no, what’s going to happen there?'” Mensch told THR. after season two finale. “It’s a place that makes us deeply, deeply uncomfortable and that was exciting for us to take the story, and the women, there to see what happens.”

According to the official synopsis released by Netflix, the upcoming third season follows the women wrestlers who go through the harsh realities of life as the new headliners at the Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino in Vegas. Ruth is troubled by her turbulent personal life. Though Debbie finds a spark of success as a producer, a deranged relationship with the only son haunts her. As life becomes more hostile, the women find their performances and life outside the Casino collide each other only to fuse together as their eternal reality and ordeal.

The other team members of GLOW includes Cherry Bang aka “Black Magic” (played by Sydelle Noel), Carmen Wade aka “Machu Picchu” (played by Britney Young), Rhonda Richardson aka “Britannica” (played by Kate Nash), Justine Biagi (played by Britt Baron), Melanie Rosen aka “Melrose” (played by Jackie Tohn), and Sheila aka “Sheila the She-Wolf” (played by Gayle Rankin), among others.

Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch serve as showrunners for the third season. Tara Hermann and Jenji Kohan are the executive producers. ‘GLOW,’ which was premiered in 2017, earned critical acclaim and 10 Emmy nominations for its first season.
