10 On-Screen Couples Who Hated Each Other in Real Life

5. Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing)

The famous story goes in Hollywood that Jennifer Grey and the late Patrick Swayze, who had already collaborated on ‘Red Dawn’ before shooting for ‘Dirty Dancing’ in 1987, didn’t bond on the sets. Yet director Emile Ardolino, who thought they looked great on the screen, cast them in his romantic film. Swayze always complained that Grey goofed around on the sets too much, wasting movie takes and the entire unit’s time and Grey thought it was what she was in real life, always cheering up people’s mood. All this left Swayze exasperated and he never signed films with Jennifer again after he had a “dirty” experience with the actress!

4. Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp (The Tourist)

Sources say that while filming Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s dud ‘The Tourist’, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp weren’t comfortable in each other’s company. They had attitude issues, since both were big names in the industry and that in turn, gave the director a really tough time. Jolie complained that Depp was too unhygienic and did not clean himself up after shooting, and Depp said the ‘Tomb Raider’ star was too full of herself! And that was why their chemistry did not crackle in the film either!

3. Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road)

While 2015’s Oscar-nominated ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ is one of the greatest action films ever made, the same cannot be said about the chemistry between the film’s co-stars. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron shared a rocky relationship with each other off the screen, just like they had it on the screen. The twosome struggled to shoot together for the entire filming time and they had even wanted to kill each other when they first got onboard! Fellow actors reported that they were just tired of the grueling shoot sessions and that affected their chemistry. Seems like the onscreen couple were really “mad” at each other!

2. Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio (Romeo + Juliet)

When someone shoots for a film like Romeo and Juliet, which is unarguably the most romantic love story ever written by William Shakespeare, it is but natural for the lead onscreen couple to share a great camaraderie. But such was not the case with ‘Romeo + Juliet’ stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. The comparatively new actress complained that Leo was too immature and played silly pranks on her, while Leonardo said that Claire was too reserved and didn’t mix with the others. More than the star-crossed lovers that the twosome played on the screen, they were cross with each other when the cameras weren’t rolling!

1. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling (The Notebook)

Nick Cassavetes’ film ‘The Notebook’, which became a monster hit when it released in 2004, is considered to be one of the most iconic love stories; but its onscreen couple Rachael McAdams and Ryan Gosling, who dated for four years post the film in real life, didn’t stand each other’s sight while shooting this particular movie. Ryan and Rachel hated each other too much and the star had even asked Nick to cast another actress in the lead opposite him. Although the twosome shot for scenes that called for intense chemistry between the onscreen couple, Noah and Allie, but off it, they were enemies and their small-time feud might just go into Hollywood’s history “notebook”!
