‘One Day at a Time’ is a reboot of Norman Lear’s eponymous 70s sitcom, which is still regarded as one of the most successful shows in TV history. The family sitcom revolves around the lives of an Army veteran Penelope and her Cuban-American family, comprising her teenage kids – Alex and Elena, and her mother, Lydia Riera. Developed by Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce, the show first premiered on January 6, 2017, on Netflix. Upon its release, the show was well-received by critics as well as the audiences.
The lighthearted family series has spawned a total of three seasons so far. The multiple award-winning show has received universal acclaim for responsibly tackling grave issues like PTSD, depression, immigration, sexism, homophobia, and racism. Unfortunately, Netflix decided to cancel the show in March 2019, only for Pop TV to renew it for a fourth season.
One Day at a Time Season 4 Release Date
‘One Day at a Time’ season 3 premiered on February 8, 2019, on Netflix.
Despite its success, Netflix pulled the plug on the show on March 14, 2019. Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos released a statement following the cancellation. He said, “This was a very difficult decision and we’re thankful to all the fans who’ve supported the series, our partners at Sony, and all the critics who embraced it. While it’s disappointing that more viewers didn’t discover ‘One Day at a Time,’ I believe the series will stand the test of time.”
What followed was a massive social media outrage under the hashtag #SaveODAAT, backed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
