Top 10 One-Hit Wonders of Bollywood

5. Gayatri Joshi

Who, as an outsider, gets to star opposite King Khan in their first film?! Gayatri Joshi was one lucky girl, who was given this golden opportunity by Ashutosh Gowariker in ‘Swades’ and she did a fine job with it and received wide recognition for it too. But her not-so-extra-ordinary looks and her restrained acting skills did not bring her many movie offers post the successful film in 2004 and a year later, she settled down with businessman Vikas Oberoi, bidding adieu to Bollywood.

4. Rajiv Kapoor

He belongs to a filmy family. His last name itself spells out success; but unfortunately, Rajiv Kapoor, who hails from the first family of Bollywood, couldn’t prove his mettle. Acting wasn’t quite meant for him, or perhaps, it wasn’t in his genes! His father, the legendary showman Raj Kapoor, did everything in his power to launch Rajiv into stardom with his last directorial venture ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ but failed on all counts. Acting was not Rajiv’s cup of tea like his brothers Rishi and Randhir or his kin and he decided to graciously step out.

3. Rahul Roy

We saw him in the Mahesh Bhatt-directed blockbuster ‘Aashiqui’ in 1990 and fell in love with his chocolate looks! His luscious lips and silky hair gave the girls sleepless nights, but Rahul Roy’s career only slid downwards as he kept signing more and more films. His only notable movie worth remembering after the romantic drama was ‘Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee’ in 1993. Well, we all know what happened to him when he was signed on for the first season of a certain reality show on TV!

2. Bhagyashree

She was the epitome of grace and beauty in her heydays and was perfect to play the girl-next-door, which was one of the major reasons we saw her in Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ opposite Salman Khan. Post her debut film, which was a smash success at the box office, Bhagyashree had directors lined up outside her residence to cast her in their films, but she kept them all waiting. She then tied the knot with businessman Himalaya Dassani and that was unfortunately the end of her career, which could otherwise have been sterling.

1. Kumar Gaurav

Son of yesteryear’s superstar Rajendra “Jubilee” Kumar, Kumar Gaurav began his acting career with Rahul Rawail’s ‘Love Story’ in 1981. The film, which was produced by Rajendra Kumar to launch his son in Bollywood, was such a huge success that it played on at cinema halls for a very long time and made Kumar Gaurav an overnight sensation. He also went on to star in ‘Naam’ with his future brother-in-law Sanjay Dutt, but mostly went unnoticed in the film. And to this date, if anybody lists names of actors, who are one-hit wonders, Kumar Gaurav is always sure to top the list!
