15 Most Overrated Movies on Indian IMDb Top 250

10. Maine Pyar Kiya (1989)

IMDb Top 250 Indian movies rank- 175

IMDb score- 7.4

‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ is another movie that falls in the same bracket as ‘Hum Aapke Hai Koun’. A melodramatic love story at a time when Hindi cinema wasn’t at its prime. Ranked at 175 with a rating of 7.4. The movie is on par on rating with ‘Monsoon Wedding’, ‘Page 3’, ‘Dear Zindagi’, ‘Yuva’ and more such movies that are certainly better. You certainly would not recommend ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ to someone wanting to watch a good hindi film. Being n the list, certainly makes it overrated.

9. Barfi (2012)

IMDb Top 250 Indian movies rank: 60

IMDb score: 8.0

‘Barfi’ has some exceptional performances from Ranbir Kapoor playing a deaf and mute guy and Priyanka Chopra playing an autistic girl. The movie was certainly worth a watch and deserved praise for its performances. It was well made and a fun ride but the rank 60 on the list seems a bit overrated but I have to agree that it deserves to be on the list and that too within rank 150.

8. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013)

IMDb Top 250 Indian movies rank: 34

IMDb score: 8.2

Farhan Akhtar playing the legendary ‘The Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh. Directed by Rakeysh Omparakash Mehra ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ was inspirational. The movie was well received but had a few criticisms like taking a lot of cinematic liberties, being too long and boring at times. The problem lies with its ranking on IMDb Top 250, at rank 34 and rating of 8.2, it seems quite high and feels overrated on the list. Maybe a place anywhere between rank 50 and 100 is apt for the movie.

7. Dangal (2016)

IMDb Top 250 Indian movies rank: 6

IMDb score: 8.5

Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ took the box office by storm, in India and outside India. The movie was praised exceptionally for its theme and the performance of the actors. This led to the movie receiving a rating of 8.5 on IMDb. The rating gave ‘Dangal’ 6th rank on the Top 250 list. With all its acclaim and praise, it does not deserve to be placed so high on the list, on par with ratings of ‘Gol Maal’ (1979) and above movies like ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, ‘3 Idiots’ and more such movies. The movie with all its praise is no classic and certainly is mot the 6th best Indian movie. It does deserve all the praise it received, juts not at rank 6.

6. Toilet- Ek Prem Katha (2017)

IMDb Top 250 Indian movies rank: 180

IMDb score: 7.3

Akshay Kumar recently has done many films which have been well received by the critics and have also churned out money at the box office. Similar was the case with ‘Toilet- Ek Prem Katha’. The movie was a love story with a social message as its theme. The movie received praise fr its theme but overall it was an average flick and seemed more like a propaganda film. Melodramatic and slow at times, its overrated. At rank 180 on the Top 250 list with a rating of 7.3, we beg to ask the question, does it even belong in the Top 250 list?
