14 Most Overrated South Indian Directors Working Today

10. Mysskin

Mysskin is one rebellious filmmaker known for his brilliant taking and eccentric writing. But, for a while Mysskin seems to have taken the treaded path and started making the same movies. It’s high time he reinvents himself.

9. Sundar C

Sundar C has been in the industry for more than 2 decades. In his career spanning more than 20 films, he was able to churn out two good films- Anbe Sivam and Ullathai Allitha. Famous for his slapstick comedies, Sundar C must work on more genres, rather than focussing on a single genre. All his recent outings are horror comedies and sequels, which turned out to be disappointing fares. His Anbe Sivam is considered to be one of the greatest Tamil films ever made. If he makes more such inspiring works, Sundar C can turn into an influential filmmaker.

8. VV Vinayak

Telugu Cinema has leaped enormously after the release of the gargantuan Baahubali. Prior to its release, makers never dared to try experimental subjects. VV Vinayak is a director who has given many blockbusters in his epic career. A massive crowd puller, his movies are famous for bomb-blasts, and loud action scenes. His formula is now out-dated! VV Vinayak is definitely one of the talented men in the Industry. But he should try to come out of his ‘commercial’ formula, and must prove himself with a novel story-line.

7. Hari

One of the biggest crowd-pulling names of Tamil Cinema is Director Hari. Famous for his Singham series and Saamy, Hari is one filmmaker who has always been on the path of churning out loud-cop dramas one after another. Although his movies enjoy a huge mass-following in the state of Tamil Nadu, his movies are unable to quench the thirst of movie-lovers. Director Hari should definitely come out of his comfort-zone and experiment with movies.

6. Gautam Vasudev Menon

Gautam Vasudev Menon is my favorite director on the list. Unlike many directors, he always was a supporter of realistic cinema. All his movies present the middle-class innocence and breezy romances. The only reason he is on the list: never experimented with different genres. Right from the beginning of his career, he made either romantic dramas or stylish thrillers. GVM should foray into another cinematic genres and exploit them with his brilliant intellect.
