In the episode titled ‘Love Rival Killer or Defensive Mom?’ of A&E’s ‘Accused: Guilty or Innocent?,’ the primary focus is on the tragic 2021 killing of a doting mother named Precious Warren, stemming from a long-running feud. As the prosecution built its case against the suspect, the defense worked to strengthen its self-defense claim. The documentary features exclusive interviews with the defense attorneys as they try to persuade the jury to lean toward the suspect’s side.
Precious Warren Was Found Severely Injured After a Physical Altercation
Born on July 25, 1988, in Fort Pierce, Florida, Precious Racquel Warren was the beloved daughter of Deborah Warren and Herbert Jackson. Growing up in a seemingly loving household, she was close to her two brothers, Demeatrice Warren and Damiem Chitty, and four sisters — Amber Jackson, Jasmine Threats, Jalisa Threats, and Talexis Threats. Precious went to Henry County School System in Abbeville, Alabama, and graduated with flying colors. By the time she turned 33, she had become a mother to five adorable children — Chrishayla Jackson, Ka’moria Warren, Kyndal Roberts, Jermaine Holmes Jr., and Khylei Holmes.

On the afternoon of October 18, 2021, the police received a 911 call from around Walnut Street in Dothan, Alabama, regarding a shooting incident. Upon reaching the scene, the authorities discovered 33-year-old Precious in critical condition as she had been shot in the stomach. She was rushed to a Dothan hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy also revealed that the mother of five had sustained severe brain damage. A homicide investigation was soon launched in an attempt to bring the perpetrator to justice.
Precious Warren’s Killer Claimed Self-Defense
At the shooting site, while the paramedics rushed Precious Warren to the hospital, the police took the suspected shooter, Carmen Kirkland, into custody. She was also a mother of three and pregnant with twins at the time of the shooting. It turned out that Carmen and Precious shared the same boyfriend, who was the father of Precious’ children and Carmen’s unborn twins. After spending 18 days in jail, charged with capital murder, Carmen was released on a $150,000 bond. According to the suspect, she was driving to a restaurant with her boyfriend of three years and two daughters when he asked her to stop the car in front of a house on the way. Another car, driven by Precious, pulled over right behind them, with her two children inside.

As per Carmen, a verbal altercation erupted between Carmen and Precious when the latter learned that Carmen was pregnant with the boyfriend’s twins. Soon, the altercation turned physical. Carmen alleged that Precious sprayed her with mace, after which her vision became unclear. Carmen grabbed her gun and hit her in the head with it. Precious allegedly began kicking her in the stomach before some bystanders separated the two women. According to Carmen, when she noticed Precious charging towards her, she picked up her gun and shot her to protect herself and her daughters. Police reports suggest that the two women had been involved in numerous altercations during Carmen’s relationship with her boyfriend.
On September 20, 2019, when Precious arrived at Carmen’s house, where she lived with her boyfriend, to pick up her son, Carmen reportedly struck her in the hand with a baseball bat when her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend chased her with a taser. Carmen also alleged that two months prior to the shooting incident, Precious banged on her door at around 2:30 am and threatened to kill her. After that, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Precious on the charge of criminal trespass. Later, in 2022, Carmen’s charge of capital murder was reduced as the grand jury indicted her on reckless manslaughter.
Carmen Kirkland is Leading a Free Life Away From the Limelight
After a delay, Carmen Kirkland’s murder trial commenced in September 2024. During the trial, the prosecution brought several witnesses on the stand, one of whom claimed that Precious Warren was charging at the defendant when Carmen pulled the trigger. Meanwhile, the other two witnesses, who were reported to be Precious’ close acquaintances, testified that she was not attacking the suspect. The defense argued that Carmen shot Precious in self-defense because she was scared for her and her children’s lives. After a week-long trial, the jury deliberated for about five and a half hours over two days before reaching a final verdict.
Ultimately, on September 30, 2024, Carmen Kirkland was found not guilty of reckless manslaughter, allowing her to lead a free life with her children. After the shooting incident, she broke up with her boyfriend, who was later convicted of robbery and sent to prison. While she was in jail after her arrest, she tragically miscarried one of her twins due to a prior medical condition. The Dothan High School graduate majored in Radiology Technology at Wallace Community College before landing a job as a Nurse Technician at Encompass Health in September 2019. Unfortunately, the beloved daughter of Xavier Kirkland and Cindy Porter lost her job after she was linked to the crime. However, she had landed a new job selling cars soon after her bail, and it is likely that she is still working in the same job.
