Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Season 2: Everything We Know

Based on the top-rated ‘Resident Evil’ video game series, ‘Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness’ is a survival horror CGI original net animation series. The events depicted in the show happens in 2006, between ‘Resident Evil 4’ and ‘Resident Evil 5’ video games. The show revolves around Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, as they try to prevent an impending war between China and the US after a zombie attack on the White House. Since its premiere, the show has received mostly positive reviews. If you have already binged the series and are wondering when the next season will come out, we got you covered.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Season 2 Release Date

‘Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness’ season 1 premiered on July 8, 2021, on Netflix and comprises 4 episodes of 25–28-minute runtime each. TMS Entertainment developed the series in collaboration with Quebico. As for season 2, this is what we know. No announcement has been yet made confirming or denying the development of a second season. However, Netflix has a stellar reputation for developing multiple seasons of its original animated projects and providing them with much-needed initial support until they find a solid footing. The streaming giant seems to have been long interested in the ‘Resident Evil’ franchise, often making both live-action and animated films of the franchise available for audiences in various parts of the world. In fact, a live-action ‘Resident Evil’ web series is currently in development at Netflix.

Animated shows based on video games, such as ‘Castlevania’ and ‘Dota: Dragon’s Blood,’ have enjoyed multi-seasonal runs on Netflix. If ‘Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness’ manages to replicate the success of those aforementioned shows, then there will be a considerable chance for a second season. The ‘Resident Evil’ lore is rich and extensive. They can set the second season on any of the years in its ever-expanding timeline and develop an original story. They can also potentially adapt one of the numerous books that have been published as part of the franchise. Either way, if the series is renewed in the next few months, expect ‘Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness’ season 2’ to come out sometime in 2022.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Season 2 Plot: What Can It Be About?

In the season 1 finale, it is revealed that Wilson has built an army of infected soldiers who he wants to sell for profit. Leon and Claire find out the truth separately and locate the facility where Wilson keeps his modified soldiers. Jason shows up and transforms into a mutant and bites Wilson. This prompts the facility to go into the self-destructive mode, and it drops all the chambers containing the special soldiers into what looks like acid. Leon prevents Jason from going to the surface and revealing himself. The latter dies after falling into the acid.

It is revealed that Tricell company is behind Wilson’s work. The season ends as Leon declines Claire’s request for the chip containing all the information about Wilson’s actions, knowing that if this gets out, it will have disastrous consequences for America.

If season 2 decides to stick with the same cast, we might eventually see that Leon is forced to choose between doing what is right and what is his duty. Leon and Claire parted ways on pretty bad terms. Their reunion will not likely be particularly pleasant. Tricell might use Wilson’s research to create more infected soldiers, and their tests might end up creating another outbreak. Other recurring characters in the game series, such as Ada Wong and Jill Valentine, might appear in the second season.
