In June 2009, news broke in Mexico City, Mexico, that a newborn baby had been kidnapped from Hospital General de México. Ricardo Alejandro Noriega Ramírez was the father of the baby, and he made an appeal in the media for the kidnapper to return his child. The baby was safely returned to him, but when he found out what had transpired, it understandably left him angry and distressed. Netflix’s ‘A Child of My Own’ (originally titled ‘Un hijo propio’) features his account of the incident, in which he spoke about the ordeal he faced and what was going through his mind at the time.
Ricardo Ramírez Spoke to the Media Immediately After His Daughter’s Kidnapping
On June 17, 2009, Ricardo Alejandro Noriega Ramírez walked into Hospital General de México with his partner, Mayra Aurora Navarro Vega. They were about to welcome their baby, and he was excited to bring their little girl into the world. He said that while they were in the room, a hospital staff member came in and asked them some questions from a supposed survey. Mayra was running a fever at the time, and once Ricardo returned to the room, the staff member left in a hurry. His partner was then taken in to provide some of her samples, leaving the baby alone in the room. That was when the newborn, Katia Valentina, was kidnapped.
Ricardo and Mayra immediately raised the alarm, and Ricardo even went in front of the media. He had tears in his eyes when he made an emotional appeal for his newborn daughter to be returned to him. It was shortly after midnight that the little girl was found at Hotel Hollywood, unharmed. However, the kidnapper, Eleanor Alejandra Marin Mendoza, falsely claimed that she had made an arrangement with Mayra to adopt the baby from her. Ricardo denied such claims right away and said that he knew nothing about any such arrangement. In one of his interviews from 2009, he even said that he was going to lodge a formal criminal complaint against Alejandra.
Ricardo Ramírez Prefers to Lead a Private Life
The investigators working on the case were able to verify Ricardo Alejandro Noriega Ramírez’s version of events. Eleanor Alejandra Marin Mendoza was sentenced to 13 years in prison in 2011, and Ricardo has said that he felt it was the correct punishment. He described the time as extremely distressing and said that he could not imagine what would have happened if the baby had been harmed in any way. After a long time, he spoke about the incident in the documentary, while otherwise remaining a private person. He and Mayra were not married at the time, and it does not seem like that has changed. Ricardo has spoken about getting to watch his daughter grow, which means that he remains a part of Katia Valentina’s life and continues doing his best to be the father she needs.
