10 Ryan Gosling Facts You Didn’t Know About

Ryan Gosling is one of the most exciting actors working today. His films have been both critical and commercial successes. What is worth appreciating is the variety in his roles and having recently won a Golden Globe for ‘La La Land’ many people predict him to get his second Oscar nomination. Gosling is also part of one of the most anticipated movies of 2017, ‘Blade Runner 2049’. But first let’s get to know him a little better with a few facts about the actor.

1. He was home schooled by his mother as a result of constant bullying that he had to face in elementary school. The actor once said that home schooling gave him, “a sense of autonomy that I’ve never really lost”.

2. When in the first grade he was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and placed in a class with special-needs students. This was after an incident where he took steak knives to school and threw them at other children, as a result of inspiration he got from the film ‘First Blood’.

3. Ryan looked up to Marlon Brando when creating his accent. He did this because he thought that his natural Canadian accent didn’t sound tough enough.

4. While preparing for his role as Noah Calhoun for ‘The Notebook’, he built a kitchen table by himself. The table  ended up being featured in the film.

5. Known to be a very charitable person, he is a supporter of many causes ranging from the condition of refugees to the practices of slaughterhouses. He went to Chad in the year 2005 to make a documentary about the Darfur refugees living there.

6. Ryan drove the same car in both ‘Drive’ and ‘The Ides Of March’. It was a 2011 Chevy Impala.

7. He is part of a rock duo along with his friend, Zach Shields. They are called Dead Man’s Bones and have even released an eponymous album. Ryan takes care of the vocals, piano, guitar as well as bass guitar.

8. He loves to knit and he has even stated that he wouldn’t mind sitting in a room knitting all day. That’s how much he loves it.

9. Ryan almost joined the Backstreet Boys back in the 90s. He and band member A.J. McLean lived in the same apartment complex.

10. In 1999 he starred along with Steve Carrell in a pilot for a show called ‘The Unbelievables’. Twelve years later they would star in ‘Crazy Stupid Love’.
