10 Signs That a Movie is Going to Suck

5. The Cast Includes Old Famous Actors

The kind of movie where there’s like a reunion of old actors and they discuss their golden age and all the stuff they used to do and now they’re too old to. Yeah, that kind of movie is almost a guarantee to go down as a failure on a commercial as well as on a critical level. All the good jokes in the movie are sure to be featured on the trailer. So if that does not make you laugh, well it’s a clear sign, buddy! Examples include Dirty Grandpa, Last Vegas and many more.

4. Excessive Ad-campaign

When the producers and all those involved with the movie have agreed that the movie’s plot and the storyline are not that good to snag an Oscar, they try to make it a commercial success by making the marketing and advertisement of the movie on a grand scale. They also know that poor critical success can ruin their financial aims. So they put out an aggressive marketing campaign to get the audience to flood the theatres in the opening week itself before all the negative reviews come out. Over-advertisements include new trailers, TV spots every week leading to the release of the film, thus keeping the potential viewers hooked till the release. eg. Suicide Squad (2016).

3. It’s a Horror Movie Sequel

It is evident from watching all the remakes and sequels and prequels and whatnot of the original movie that got people scared to their core the first time. Old classics like ‘The Exorcist’ inspired many takes on the same genre with the title suggesting that it was inspired by the original flick. But they all failed on a grand scale and couldn’t garner the attention that the first film was able to. The’ Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ also saw inspired remakes and sequels that were essentially using the same plot and logic but failed at box office. So, if that’s the case, it’s better to stick with the classic and not fall for the revamped version.

2. Delayed Reviews

If the movie cannot be reviewed until at least a week after the movie’s official release date, it might signal that even the filmmakers are aware that the movie is not that great and so they want to make as much commercial success in as little time as possible and are not in a position to let their potential audiences not hitting the theaters due to the negative reviews and Rotten Tomatoes score that largely decide the course of the movie’s success and things that are ahead of time.

1. A Boisterous Trailer

If the trailer almost seems like it’s the best trailer ever, it’s primarily because everything “good” in the movie has been crammed in those three minutes of the movie: CGI effects, classic background score that keep the adrenaline going. But when you hit the theatres in so much awe and expectations from the trailer itself, you’re left disappointed because everything that was good is already seen and there is nothing better than the movie offers and then you gasp in disappointment that it wasn’t worth the popcorn.

So, there we are! If you happen to experience even one or two of these signs, nay, facts, then make sure you give it some serious thought whether you’ll watch it or not. Because not every movie should be watched, just the good ones. Peace.
