‘The Crown’ Finds Its Princess Diana in this Newcomer

Netflix royal drama series ‘The Crown‘ finds its Princess Diana at last. Newcomer Emma Corrin has been cast as Princess Diana in the fourth season of the series, reports Variety. The report also says Netflix has pushed the filming of the fourth season to later this year. The fans went on a frenzy when reports surfaced on the possible introduction of the celebrity Princess in one of the upcoming seasons of ‘The Crown.’ Later, the streaming platform cleared the clouds and announced its plans to bring Diana in the fourth season instead of the upcoming Season 3.

‘Beyond excited and honored to be joining ‘The Crown’ for its fourth season,’ Corrin quoted as saying in the Variety report. ‘I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal. Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice!’ she added.

According to ‘The Crown’ creator Peter Morgan, Corrin immediately captivated the casting directors with her brilliant talent. ‘Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer. As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation,’ Morgan said in a statement.

The young actress is all set to make her feature film debut with ‘Misbehavior.’ The movie is a historical drama chronicling the event of Women’s Liberation Movement activists attempt to disrupt the 1970 Miss World beauty competition in London. Corrin plays the role of Miss South Africa in ‘Misbehaviour.’ She will also be seen in the upcoming Epix series ‘Pennyworth.’ From the Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller and the executive producer-director Danny Cannon, the Batman sequel is a 10-episode origin story of Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred Pennyworth. Being a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company, Alfred works with the billionaire Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s father.

‘The Crown,’ which is a historical retelling of the reign of the British monarch Queen Elizabeth II, features a revolving cast with different stars playing the Royals every two seasons. Season 3 premiers on 2019 and with Olivia Colman replaces Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth. The third season reportedly focuses on the cold war era of Harold Wilson between 1964 and 1970. Tobias Menzies plays Prince Phillip, the role previously played by Matt Smith. Other cast members of Season 3 include Helena Bonham Carter, Jason Watkins, Josh O’Connor, Emerald Fennell, and Marion Bailey. Netflix has revealed its plans to run the series for six seasons chronicling the Queen’s entire life.

The first two seasons of the show garnered widespread critical acclaim. The second season won five Emmy Awards, which include Best Actress in a Drama Series for Foy and Best Directing for a Drama Series for Stephen Daldry. The fourth season has already sparked curiosity after Princess Diana’s introduction into the narrative. Reports suggest that Corrin will portray Diana from the failed marriage to Prince Charles during the Margaret Thatcher era of Britain. The makers keep their mouth shut about depicting the tragic car accident in August 1997 that killed Princess Diana. Her death caused a wave of grief that swept over the world and never-ending conspiracy theories about the accident.
