Preview: The Sinner S03 E05

‘The Sinner’ is busy raising the stakes in its third season and has been doing so intriguingly. After setting up its premise in the first episode, the third season focused on Jamie’s gradual descent to mental instability. In the fourth episode, Jamie is seen running off to the city in a troubled state of mind. Ambrose follows him around. Eventually, Jamie ends up at a former student, Sophie’s party. He comes into contact with a man who claims to be a psychic.

Then, Jamie drives Sophie’s car rather rashly when the two go out to buy alcohol, almost getting into a crash again. However, Ambrose manages to make him stop the vehicle and escort him back to his house. The next morning, the psychic is found dead at Sophie’s house, teasing the possibility of Jamie’s involvement in the crime.

The Sinner Season 3 Episode 5 Spoilers: What to Expect?

The blurb for the fifth episode of the third season of ‘The Sinner’ reads: “Ambrose urges the NYPD to investigate Jamie for a new crime; Jamie struggles to salvage his life.” The fourth episode ends with a psychic man at Sophie’s party discovered to be dead. The cliffhanger makes viewers question whether Jamie killed the man.

It seems quite unlikely Jamie killed the psychic. However, in the next episode, we might expect to find more clues regarding that. Personally, I do not think the next episode will reveal whether Jamie committed the crime or not. The car crash incident did serve to be a rather minor crime for the third season to delve into its “why.” Hence, the murder of the psychic could turn out to be the crime whose reasoning will form the suspense for the rest of the season.

However, in the fifth episode, we will surely see Ambrose trying to convince other police officers that Jamie is somehow linked to the crime. This might prove to be difficult though since Ambrose is the only one who is aware of Jamie’s descent into mental instability.

On the other hand, the blurb also teases Jamie struggling to “salvage his life.” This could mean that Jamie finally seeks some help. However, whatever progress he makes might be reversed with the imminent police investigation regarding the psychic’s death. However, this could also mean something more sinister. “Salvage his life” might have a deeper meaning and allude to Jamie finally willing to do something irrational to look death in the face.
