5. Hulk
A character based on the classic Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde story, the Hulk is the angry alter ego of Bruce Banner. A pure rage monster, the Hulk can and has taken on plenty of villains single handed even in the movies, from a giant alien worm-like creature to a giant wolf and even Surtur himself. Hulk went into a fistfight with Thanos and got in a few good shots and often spars with Thor as a jest, but like Tony Stark said – he is equivalent to having an army. One of the strongest Avengers, he isn’t known for his brains though. However, that is adequately made up for by Bruce Banner who is one of the smartest members of the team and even has the respect of Tony Stark. That being said, you wouldn’t want to be in Hulk’s way when he is smashing, as he so often does to save the team from unwinnable situations.
4 Thor
The God of thunder is literally out of our human legends. A man who can go for a few rounds of a fist fight with the Hulk without any armor is no man at all – he is a God. Coupled with Mjlionir which was his hammer until recently he has single-handedly stopped invasions and maintained order in the nine realms. Odin’s favorite son, Thor stands for justice, sheer power and everything a king should be. His entries in the recent movies have been nothing short of absolutely fantastic and with the new war-ax he single-handedly stopped a fight against Thanos. In terms of physical strength alone coupled with the power of thunder he is easily the strongest Avenger on this list- sorry Hulk.
3. Vision
A synthetic body infused with the consciousness of the remnants of JARVIS, Vision has the perfect mind among the team members – he has the mind of a computer. Someone worthy to lift Thor’s hammer must be recognized as being very powerful. Apart from superhuman strength, durability, ability to levitate and fly, Vision can also move through any solid objects by manipulating density. He is an expert hacker of course since he has the mind of a computer literally. Coupled with the Mind Stone and someone who can use blasts from the stone at any time, Vision becomes one of the two Avengers to have an Infinity Stone. This definitely earns him a top spot on this list.
2. Dr. Strange
Okay, let’s preface this by saying that Dr. Strange’s powers have been seriously toned down in the movies. He is sorcerer supreme, one of the strongest wizards in the Marvel Universe. His powers in the first film were considerable, but not truly great. Yes, he could teleport, and we have seen him levitate, create astral projections and his training at Kamar Taj means that he is somewhat of an expert at the martial arts. His recent skirmish with Thanos also tells us that he is good with a sword since that was the weapon he carved using magic to fight the Titan. However coming to Strange’s truly great magical powers itself – he can warp reality, warp dimensions, create protection spells, duplicate himself, conjure things, and transmutation. Coupled with the time stone, with which he can manipulate time. If his recent battle with Thanos where he single-handedly almost bested a Titan with all Infinity stones is anything to go by, Strange is one of the strongest we have seen in the movies and almost would win the top spot on this list too.
1. Scarlet Witch
Considered as the most powerful mutant in the Marvel Universe, with Jean Grey’s Phoenix coming a close second, it’s popularly believed that any magical showdown between Dr. Strange and Wanda would end in a tie. Her magical powers or chaos magic is extremely powerful and can be used as force fields or blasts. She can levitate and is capable of telekinesis, telepathy and reality manipulation. Her reality warping is at par with Strange’s. Just as powerful a magician and a mutant to top that, we can imagine she’d have a slight edge if ever there was a face off. However, what truly makes her the most powerful Avenger is her display of powers in the Infinity War movie. Her magic is strong enough to destroy the Infinity Stone – something that has to put her above Strange even with his time stone. Thus, we can safely say that Wanda Maximoff is the strongest Avenger without a doubt in the cinematic universe that we have seen till now.
