5. Dhruv Natchathiram (2018)

John is a secret undercover agent based in New York. Their mission is headed by a man, Mr. K, who gets mysteriously taken by the bad guys, leaving the mission in the middle. It becomes John’s responsibility to find Mr. K. With Vikram in the lead, this lavishly shot, stylish thriller is imbued with panache, grim pauses, and a thrilling underplay. It has the capacity to outshine any Bollywood thriller.

 

4. Pachaikili Muthucharam (2007)

Venkat, a neglected and lonely husband takes a train to work every day. He gets drawn towards an attractive lady, Geeta, and begins a relationship with her. While in a hotel room, they get robbed by a goon who rapes Geeta. He keeps on blackmailing him and extorting money. It is a surprisingly chilling ‘romantic’ thriller which went on to be made in several other languages. A cast of R. Sarathkumar, Jyothika and Andrea Jeremiah, gave an outstanding performance in this mysterious, dark film.

A crime-thriller directed by Gowtham Menon, is as intricately written and meticulously handled as any of his love stories. It also intertwines a love story. A stellar cast of Kamal Hassan, Jyothika and Prakash Raj in prominent roles, and Harris Jayaraj’s music amalgamates with a smartly written screenplay.

Trisha Krishnan and Silambarasan playing the leads in a Gautham Menon love story, adorned with the music of A.R. Rahman. Need I say more? A Hindu assistant director, Karthik, falls in love with a Christian girl, Jessie, in the neighborhood. They try to stick through all odds, but a 40 days shoot in Goa separates the two in ways that form one of the most realistic and passionate second-half of a love story Indian Cinema has ever come to terms with. The way Menon manages complex human relationships is beautifully showcased in this movie.

A conspicuously magnificent career of Gautham Menon began from this beautiful love story that broke all records. Rajesh falls in love with Reena and cons her into love by disguising as Rajiv, the man whom she’s supposed to get married. Later, it’s revealed to her that this man is none other than his college-time nemesis. Harris Jayaraj’s music, with actors like Madhavan and Reema Sen making their debuts, worked magic on-screen. The movie, then, was remade in Hindi with Madhavan, Dia Mirza and Saif Ali Khan in the lead, becoming a modern cult-classic.
