6. Faster Fene

As the title goes by, ‘Faster Fene’ is a fast-paced crime thriller. Based on the exploits of the teen detective character created by BR Bhagwat, the film delves into the titular character’s lives and his adventures. National award-winning Girish Kulkarni plays an able sidekick as he looks menacingly evil while delivering plenty of humor every now and then. Easy to say, ‘Faster Fene’ is by far, the best crime film to have come out this year.

 

5. Kaccha Limbu

‘Kaccha Limbu’ in common Marathi refer to a boy who is intellectually disabled and big-built. In this case, it is a kid named Bacchu who is immensely loved by his family but is tormented in school and other places. Despite the light title, the film tells a very dark and disturbing tale perfectly projecting the Mumbai of the 80s. Ravi Jadhav and Sonali Kulkarni give the performances of their lives while Sachin Khedekar plays a good second-fiddle in this heartful story.

 

4. Nadi Vahate

In the times when the ‘Rally for Rivers’ campaign is at full pace and gathering a lot of support, this film very delicately shows the relationship between a river and the people living around it. It raises issues like water pollution and questions how the rivers which are so crucial to our survival can be saved. The work behind the screen is especially relevant as this critically appreciated film seems concept-driven.

Marathi film industry seems to be the stem of cinema’s movement towards environment conservation. Here’s another film which raises an environmental issue with great efficiency and strong impact. On this instance, the audience is encouraged to love and conserve the turtles which are slowly disappearing from the planet. For its riveting screenplay and good acting, the film won the National Film Award in the Feature Film category.

 

2. Muramba

‘Muramba’ as a film has a lot of fresh feels. First of all, the director is a newbie. Mithila Palkar who is popular for her roles in numerous web-series, makes a spectacular debut. Moreover, the story itself treads the troubles of a young relationship. Alok and Indu try to deal with their conflicts in their relationship which ensues a laughter-filled ride. As a result, if not the best, ‘Muramba’ delivers the sweetest take on relationships.
