All Ram Charan Movies, Ranked From Worst to Best

5. Chirutha (2007)

‘Chirutha’ is Ram Charan’s grand introduction into the Industry. The plot is about a son reuniting with his long-lost mother, whom he assumes is dead. The story has nothing new to offer, and the writer-director Puri Jagannadh plays it safe by not experimenting with the screenplay. Ram Charan impresses with his first film. He looks confident on screen and executes some great stunts and dance movies. Some foot-tapping music from composer Mani Sharma helps the movie. Once again, a lot is not demanded from him in terms of performance, but it’s safe to say that he does a better job than those three movies that I’ve mentioned several times now.

4. Dhruva (2016)

Let me just make it clear that out of the eleven movies, the seven movies mentioned before this are in one class, and the four from now on are in a completely different class altogether. Every actor has a change, call it an epiphany or anything. ‘Dhruva’ is such movie Ram Charan. His dedication can be seen right from the beginning of the movie. May it be his effort to buff himself up or trying to give his best in every scene, many felt that this is the best Ram Charan movie in almost five to six years.

The movie is a remake of Tamil movie ‘Thani Oruvan’. Just like the original, the protagonist is overshadowed by a brilliantly written antagonist character called “Siddarth Abhimanyu”, played by Aravind Swamy. If you have or haven’t watched the original, you’ll like the movie either way. Although, just like the majority of remakes, it doesn’t trump the original.

3. Orange (2010)

‘Orange’ is a movie way ahead of its time. And just like many such movies, it has a cult following. The biggest drawback of the movie perhaps, is that Ram Charan acted in it after an all-time Industry hit, and once in a lifetime movie. Set in Sydney, Australia, the film is the analogy of a character who believes that love doesn’t last forever, and that didn’t strike a chord with a majority of the audience. The film has one of the best performance by Ram Charan and has one of the best Telugu music albums ever produced. The cinematography is brilliant and captures Australia colorfully. I haven’t said this until now, but ‘Orange’ is a must watch.

2. Rangasthalam (2018)

‘Rangasthalam’ is one of a kind experience. Right from the first frame to the last, the film has perfection written all over it. Perfection in direction by the genius filmmaker Sukumar, perfection in cinematography in the maestro Rathnavelu, perfection in music and background score by veteran Devi Sri Prasad and perfection in performances by every actor. In terms of performance, the film is Ram Charan’s best by a long way and the reason why I said he has elevated himself into the elite actors of South India. The man completely reinvents himself.

He plays the challenging role of a mechanic with sound impairment, and he breathes life into the character “Chitti Babu”. Every actor involved with the movie, including a relatively unknown face who plays a part as small as the hero’s sidekick. I would’ve said that every actor gives their career best, but just because the movie features seasoned actors like Prakash Raj and Jagapathi Babu, I’m not. For the remaining actors, however, it can be easily said.

1. Magadheera (2009)

In the article, “Best S.S. Rajamouli Movies”, I wrote that ‘Magadheera’ is once in a lifetime experience, at least for me, a 13-year old boy watching the grand tale of rebirth unfold on screen. And I’m saying this after watching the spectacular ‘Baahubali’ series.

‘Magadheera’ is the reason why Ram Charan was offered ‘Zanjeer’, and had he did twenty percent of what he has done in this one, he would’ve had a stable Bollywood career by now, not that having a Bollywood career is a parameter. I’m sure most of you have watched it. If not, stop everything you do and grab a copy, preferably a Telugu version with subtitles. I need not say more than this.
