Charles Manson’s imprint on the world and the cultural impact it had on the hippie movement have been studied in detail. Subsequently, his role as a father to his kids has also been in the limelight. Manson fathered four kids in his life, three of whom he had before he started assembling the Manson Family, and one whose identity became public much later through DNA testing. Neither of his kids had a relationship with him, nor did he play any role in raising them in any capacity. However, he did write about them in his later autobiographical work. Jay White Probably Led a Troubled Life Because of His Father’s Crimes
On April 10, 1956, Rosalie Jean Willis gave birth to her son, Charles Manson Jr., in Los Angeles, California. At the time, she was married to Charles Manson, but just a month before his son’s birth, he had been arrested on a federal charge and was behind bars. In the first few months of his life, Charles even went on to visit his father in prison, accompanied by his mother. But Willis divorced Manson in 1958 and got married to Jack White.
Charles grew up with his stepbrothers, Jed and Jesse, and he himself changed his name to Jay White in order to distance himself from his biological father after his incarceration. White never appeared in public on his own, and the only news about him is that he shot himself in his car on a stretch of highway near Burlington, Colorado, on June 29, 1993. White’s estranged son, Jason Freeman, who later won the legal fight to claim Manson’s remains, said that though he did not know his father well, it was clear that he struggled with his own identity and who his father was. It is widely believed that it caused long-term trouble for him, which ended tragically.
Jay Charles Warner Manson Kept an Extremely Low Profile All His Life
Leona Rae Musser, also known as “Candy Stevens,” got married to Charles Manson in 1959. In September 1960, she gave birth to their son, Charles Luther Manson. However, by that time, Manson was incarcerated for violating probation on a check-forging charge and transporting women across state lines, and he never got to meet his son. In 1963, she got a divorce and took full custody. Very little is known about the boy, who changed his name to Jay Charles Warner when he was a teenager. According to a news report, he passed away in 2007 in Colorado, and throughout his life, he kept himself distanced from the media and did not disclose his identity as Manson’s son.
Michael Brunner is Living a Simple and Quiet Life in the Midwest Today
Mary Brunner was the first recruit of Charles Manson’s Family after meeting him in 1967. On April 15, 1968, she gave birth to her and Manson’s son, Valentine Michael Manson, in Topanga Canyon. She named him after a character in Robert Heinlein’s ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’ and nicknamed him Pooh Bear. In April 1968, when Mary and other members were arrested near a stolen bus, Valentine was found with them at just one week old. He was not properly covered and was shivering, so he was placed in the care of Ventura County General Hospital. Brunner eventually got her baby back with the promise that she would return to her parents, but she didn’t follow through. When Mary was arrested in connection with Gary Hinman’s murder, her parents took over the care of the baby when he was just 18 months old.
They legally adopted him in 1976 and raised him in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. They renamed him Michael Brunner. Michael had a fairly normal childhood and said that he always felt loved. He understood why his grandparents and adoptive parents decided to change his name as well, so he would not be bullied in school or teased. Michael joined the Army soon after school was over. He had not paid much heed to his father’s attempts to contact him, but when he was working as a military contractor in Afghanistan, he reached out to Manson via email. That was the first and last time they got in touch. Manson invited him to visit in prison, but Michael said in a later interview that he kept delaying the visit, and then it was too late, as Manson passed away in 2017.
It was only after his father’s death that Brunner looked into the details of the crimes committed by his father and said that there was more sensationalization than anything else. He does understand the gravity of the crimes, but does not believe that Manson was the “evil incarnate” that the media made him out to be. Michael gave an exclusive interview in 2019, during which he shared that he has an adult son of his own and lives with his partner at a farm in the Midwest. He was most probably working in manufacturing, as he revealed at the time, and living a simple life. In a 2018 ruling, he was removed from Manson’s potential heirs, as he had been legally adopted and therefore had no claim.
Daniel Arguelles is Following Different Creative Paths in His Life
Daniel Arguelles is believed to be the last known son of Charles Manson, though his biological connection to Manson has remained the subject of legal proceedings. Raised by his mother, Darlene Arguelles, and his stepfather, Daniel, he grew up with very little information about his biological father. He said that he often wondered about his family background, particularly because of differences in his appearance from the man he knew as his father. It was only after his mother’s death in 2020 that he began actively searching for answers. While researching his family tree on Ancestry.com, he connected with Michael Brunner, which eventually led him to suspect that Manson was his biological father. Daniel later said that DNA testing in 2022 confirmed the connection.
His story is explored through his daughter Sophia Maddox’s investigation in Disney+’s ‘My Grandfather Charles Manson,’ where she looks into her grandfather’s legacy and her father’s complicated relationship with it. Daniel has reportedly not always been comfortable with her findings, and their relationship became strained over time. Outside the Manson connection, Daniel has built a life in the creative arts as an actor, model, musician and author. He has worked on campaigns for luxury brands, including Armani and Versace, and has released several songs as a singer-songwriter. He published ‘Life and Times of Hobo Joe’ in 2024 and ‘Meditation Is Not What You Think You Know’ in 2026. Daniel is a father himself and has continued to live a relatively normal life while pursuing his creative work.
