Citadel Season 3 Expected Release Date, Cast, Plot

The second season of Prime Video’s ‘Citadel‘ raises the stakes as Bernard Orlick reunites with Nadia Sinh and Mason Kane to stop a threat that could change the world for the worse. Their team expands as new non-Citadel spies join them, introducing fresh dynamics in the team. By the end of the season, the team sustains severe losses, but Bernard’s resolve to bring down Manticore is stronger than before. While they may have won a battle, the war is far from over. The ending presents a clear setup for the third season. However, so far, there is no confirmation about the show’s future.

While the sophomore season had received an early renewal, the streaming service will want to see how it performs with the audience, especially since it is one of the most expensive shows to be produced by Prime Video. Moreover, even if the show receives a third season, it might be a while before it is on our screens. The second season was released three years after the first. This means that Season 3 will premiere sometime in 2028 or later. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Citadel Season 3 Will Introduce Other Surviving Citadel Spies

In the first season, it is revealed that Citadel’s biggest enemy is Manticore, funded by some of the wealthiest people in the world. In the second season, one of those people, Paulo Braga, is killed. On top of this, his family’s entire wealth is also taken over by Citadel, thanks to Dahlia switching sides and joining Bernard. However, this still leaves the rest, who are still funding Manticore, and after Braga’s death, will become heavily invested in finding the remaining Citadel agents and killing them, especially Bernard. This will serve as the main premise of the third season, setting up the introduction of other families behind Manticore.

Another thing that the third season will focus on is bringing in other Citadel agents. At the end of the season, Nadia hands Bernard the list of all the agents who are still out there. We meet one such agent in the spin-off, ‘Citadel: Diana.’ At the same time, the other spin-off, ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny,’ also fills a few gaps about the agency’s workings. Since both the spin-offs have been canceled, their storylines will be integrated into ‘Citadel’ Season 3. This means we can expect the return of important characters, like Diana, who is already successfully embedded in another family, pulling the strings of Manticore.

Citadel Season 3 Will Bring Back Familiar Faces With a New Set of Characters

The second season of ‘Citadel’ delivers some shocking twists with the deaths of major characters like Richard Madden’s Mason Kane, Ashleigh Cummings’ Abby, aka Celeste, and Osy Ikhile’s Carter Spence. These characters will most likely not return for the next season, unless flashback scenes are employed to give more context to a situation. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra’s Nadia survives the events of the second season, but she also decides to quit her life as a spy. This means that she will not be a major character next season, and even if she does, it will most likely be restricted to a cameo. However, Stanley Tucci’s Bernard remains a crucial part of the story and will return for the next season.

We also expect to see Lesley Manville as Dahlia Archer, who has jumped ship, now working with Bernard to bring down Manticore, once and for all. The second season introduces several major new characters in the form of Matt Berry’s Frank Sharpe, Jack Reynor’s Hutch, Lina El Arabi’s Celine Rohr, and Rayna Vallandingham’s Aparna, all of whom are expected to reprise their roles. Michael Trucco and Rahul Kohli’s CIA agents, Bantam and Cash, might also make a return, especially since they are yet to settle the score with Hutch. What will make the next season more interesting is how it integrates the plots and characters from the spin-off series. At the end of the season, Nadia gives Bernard the list of the still-surviving Citadel agents.

We met one of them as the titular character in ‘Citadel: Diana.’ This means that Matilda De Angelis could return to reprise her role as Diana Cavalieri. The spin-off also introduced Filippo Nigro as Gabriele, who is not only Citadel, but also the teacher of sorts for Diana and a senior operative in the agency. More Citadel spies are expected to come out of the woodwork, which means several new cast members will join the show. In the same vein, new villains will also be added to the fore, which could include Lorenzo Cervasio as Edo Zani. More Manticore agents and, particularly, the families running the agency, will also likely come into the picture, shaking up the storyline and turning the plot in a whole new direction.
