If you’ve always been a fan of dark, gory and psychological anime like ‘Gantz‘ and ‘Mirai Nikki‘, then ‘Darwin’s Game’ should certainly be on top of your watch list. From what we know about its source material, it is extremely engaging right from the beginning. Its survival/battle royal is not entirely unique but its spectacular action scenes and atmospheric themes make it stand out. If Studio Nexus is able to traverse the incredible art of the manga to its anime adaptation, then ‘Darwin’s Game’ could easily be one of the best shounen of the coming season. But for now, we’ll just have to wait and see with this one. With that said, here’s everything we know about its first season.
Darwin’s Game Season 1 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Darwin’s Game’ is scheduled to release on January 4, 2020. Assuming that it will have a total of 12 episodes, we can expect it to end by March 2020. The anime is being adapted from a manga series of the same name, which has been illustrated and written by FLIPFLOPs. It will be directed by Yoshinobu Tokumoto and its animation will be done by Studio Nexus.
Darwin’s Game English Dub:
In Japan, the first season of ‘Darwin’s Game’ will be available on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and AT-X. However, when it comes to its online streaming availability, nothing much has been revealed yet. As soon as we get any confirmed news regarding that we will update it here in this section.
Darwin’s Game Plot:
Sudou Kaname, the main protagonist, gets a mysterious invitation to a mobile game. Though a little reluctant about it at first, he gives in to his curiosity and decides to reciprocate. Soon, with nowhere else to go, he finds himself in the middle of a brutal game, where nothing is as it seemed and in order to survive, he will have to do or die.
Darwin’s Game Characters:
Karina Shuko
Karina is one of the main characters of the series and is also a prominent member of Sunset Ravens. Her eyes are red in color and she ties up her blond hair in two braids. She usually wears a dark red dress. She is friendly with most people around her and even when it is needed, she fails to be offensive towards anyone in any way. She later falls for Sudou Kaname and shows no interest in any other men. And when it comes to impressing Sudou, at times, she completely loses herself and comes off as a stalker.
For some reason, she has accepted the idea of dying someday and is not afraid of it. She claims one shouldn’t have been born if he/she has a fear of death. She has a long history with Darwin’s Game. When she was a child, her parents were killed because of the game, and though she did not instantly start playing it, she was later tricked into becoming a part of it. She later even murdered the man who was responsible for killing her parents. She is also a very skilled fighter and the fact that she does not fear death makes her an even stronger opponent during fights. A lot of times, she also uses some wirelike weapons during fights, which she designs herself.
Sudou Kaname
Sudou Kaname is the main protagonist of the show, who is a high school student. Later on, he also becomes the leader of Sunset Ravens clan. He has jet black hair and he keeps them really short. For the most part, he is seen in a red shirt and a white hooded jacket. Sudou was never the kind of person who would mindlessly kill other humans. In fact, even after becoming a part of Darwin’s Game, he tried not to kill anyone for a long time. However, after the ones around him start dying, he realizes that in order to survive, he’ll have to start killing. Even so, he always tries to resolve all issues peacefully and only when that does not work out, he uses other brutal methods.
Unlike other players, he does not even use his game points as money for most things. He only uses it for making negotiations when it is absolutely necessary. His determination towards winning the game keeps him going and his great strategic abilities allow him to make the right decisions at the right time. Initially, he seems to be a very unskilled fighter and even ends up getting tired too soon during fights. But after he starts training with Ximing, he becomes a much better fighter and even starts taking on some very strong opponents.
