After an intense episode where Freddie made the Harrigans run for their lives, things slow down for a bit in Paramount+’s ‘MobLand.’ The crime family hides in the only place Kat McAllister does not know about, regrouping there. For the most part, there is a lot of talking about loyalties, threats, and what to do next. But at the end of the episode, a shocking turn of events completely rewrites the trajectory of a main character. With everything already on the brink of breaking down, the sudden death of an important character shuffles things up, especially for Harry and his wife, Jan. Their relationship is sure to witness a drastic turn in the aftermath of what she has done. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Donnie Meets a Violent End at the Hands of a Very Unexpected Character
In an attempt to move on with her life after separating from Harry, Jan starts dating Jamie. For her, he is a random guy she met on the street when he accidentally hit her car. It is an entirely unexpected meeting, and what makes it even better is that she actually grows to like Jamie. She is not marrying him anytime soon, but being with him is a breath of fresh air, especially after the claustrophobic marriage she had. But whatever glint of happiness she found is stripped away with one phone call from Harry. It turns out that her new boyfriend is actually a setup by Harry’s enemies to get to him.

He immediately warns Jan, and while she doesn’t want to believe him, seeing a notification from Seraphina on Jamie’s phone confirms her fears. She is shocked and betrayed, and she no longer wants to see Jami or Harry. But Jamie, aka Donnie, isn’t done with her yet. The whole point was to keep her close so she could be used to getting to Harry when the time comes. And the time, Frankie reminds him, is now. The Harrigans are in the wind, and the only way to flush Harry out is to get to his wife. Harry has no idea Donnie is the one posing as Jan’s new boyfriend, but he knows that she will be targeted. So, he sends Zosia and her team to get Jan.
But then, when he talks to Jan, she tells him to stay away from her or she will shoot herself with the gun that he gifted her. Harry doesn’t take her threat lightly and immediately tells Zosia to walk away. At the same time, Donnie shows up at Jan’s house, but is forced to run away when Zosia spots him. The reason Donnie came to Jan’s was that she hadn’t been picking up his calls since their last meeting. He has no idea his cover is blown, so he tries to get her to meet him at his place. She knows this is a trap, and she doesn’t like being used this way.
Jan is so angry that she agrees to meet Donnie/Jamie at a bar, only to go to his house and hide in the shadows. When he returns, she confronts him, pointing a gun at him. Before he can explain anything, he takes a step forward, and Jan shoots him in the neck. Everything happens so fast that even she is shocked. Perhaps she hadn’t actually meant to kill him. Perhaps it was just supposed to be a warning, a non-fatal shot, a warning to tell him to stay away from her. But she ends up shooting him in the neck, and he bleeds out on the floor while she watches in horror. Clearly, we won’t be seeing any more of him.
Donnie’s Death Puts Jan in a Critical Spot
While Harry sinks further into the chaos of the Harrigan family, Jan actively tries to get out of it. She has spent years watching her husband disappear into his job, putting her and their daughter, Gina, at risk. She reaches a breaking point in the Season 1 finale when she accidentally stabs Harry. But even then, he doesn’t seem to change. So, she decides to get a divorce, believing that putting some distance between them will help her get back to a more normal life. But it takes a massive hit for her to realize that there is no turning back from this life. So far, she had blamed Harry for not walking away for the sake of his family. But now, it seems she may finally understand why walking away is not so simple, or even an option for him.

Having killed Donnie (accidentally or not), Jan is likely to call Harry for help. He is, after all, a fixer, and if there is one person who can make this go away, it is him. It is also likely that Harry may become aware of it even before she calls him. While he may have told Zosia not to go to Jan, Donnie’s sighting around the house means they would have been ordered to keep an eye on his wife. It is possible that Zosia followed Jan to Donnie’s place and heard the gunshot, only to enter the house and find that Jan is not the victim in this case. This news will surely bring Harry back to London, but there is also a chance that Jan might choose a different path.
Jan has condemned Harry’s job and actions for so long that it would be a brutal irony for her to take his help. Still, there is also a chance that she might not be able to live with the guilt of becoming the very thing she hates, something that needs to be fixed by Harry. So, instead of letting them clean things up, she might prefer to go to the cops and surrender. Perhaps, going to prison will finally bring her the freedom she needed all this while. At the same time, her arrival in the police station could prompt the cops, like Kavanagh, to use her help in getting to Harry and the Harrigans. If Jan blames them for ruining her life, perhaps destroying them is the best way forward.
