Who is Elsa Hardaway? Who Plays Her in Abbott Elementary?

ABC’s ‘Abbott Elementary’ returns for a sixth season, bringing more challenges and chaos for the public school teachers who have to fight for the school’s survival every single time. The previous season ended with Abbott succeeding in retaining its funding, while several other schools were closed as a result. This means the teachers of those schools are moved around, leading to new hires at Abbott. One of them is Elsa Hardaway, who quickly establishes herself as someone not to be trifled with. She is not only prepared for the challenges posed by the students, but also the rivalries & Molly by the pre-existing teachers. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Elsa Hardaway is a New Addition to the Abbott Family

Abbott Elementary’s survival at the end of the last season means the school must undergo several changes. One of them is to welcome two new hires. While the other one turns out to be something entirely unexpected, Elsa Hardaway shows up on Day One to pick up her work. She doesn’t seem too friendly as she prefers to keep to herself, at least for now. However, this doesn’t mean she is shy or insecure. Either she prefers to ease into the introductions with her new colleagues, or she isn’t exactly too bothered by everything going around her. When she moves in, she is given Melissa’s classroom, which the latter doesn’t like.

She tries to get Elsa to move away from that classroom. However, her plans don’t work because the new teacher isn’t easily persuaded to do something she doesn’t want to do. Melissa even tries to pull her union rep card. She is also the senior one in this case, given the number of years she has at Abbott over the new teacher. Elsa, however, doesn’t care for any of it. Her current room suits her well, and she doesn’t understand why she should leave it. In the end, Melissa accepts that this is perhaps the fight she cannot win.

At the end of the day, she pleads with Elsa, saying she has been told not to exert too much effort going up and down the stairs because of her knee. Else doesn’t care about that either. But then, Morton walks past, and Melissa realizes this is what her new frenemy wants. She nudges Elsa to change classrooms because the older one is closer to Morton’s, and he walks by all the time. The desire to further her romantic endeavors leads her to agree to Melissa’s offer and to move after all.

Katy Mixon Greer Brings Elsa’s Vivacity to Life

Katy Mixon Green plays the role of Elsa Hardware in the sixth season of ‘Abbott Elementary.’ The actress is best known for her role as Katie Otto, played over five seasons of ‘American Housewife’. Katy found her calling to acting at a young age. She used to watch Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, and Debbie Reynolds, and she fell in love with the art of performance, which included acting, singing, and dancing. While she harbored a love for musical theatre, she wished to develop a more versatile skill set. In her senior year of high school, her win at the National Foundation of the Arts in Miami was followed by her acceptance to Carnegie Mellon University.

There she pursued drama and graduated in 2003. Following this, she set out for New York and eventually, Los Angeles. Picking up on her background in Carnegie, Katy considers herself more of a theatre kid, remembering that her first acting job included playing Calpurnia in Julius Caesar at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Soon, however, she started landing TV and movie roles. This included a rope in the HBO series ‘Eastbound & Down’ and later in the CBS comedy, ‘Mike & Molly.’ Both these projects were a great success for her, paving the way for more nuanced and complicated characters.

Since then, Katy has appeared in TV shows like ‘King of the Hill,’ ‘George & Tammy,’ and ‘The Thing About Pam,’ among others. She has also worked in movies like ‘Take Shelter’ and ‘Hell or High Water.’ Additionally, she has lent her voice to characters such as Petunia Pig in ‘The Looney Tunes Show,’ Barb in ‘Big Hero 6: The Series,’ and Tina Nelson in ‘Minions.’ With ‘Abbott Elementary,’ she continues to play roles that are not unique but also add more drama, flair, and depth to the overall storyline.
