Netflix’s ‘My Life With the Walter Boys‘ continues to shake things up for Jackie Howard and the Walter family as they face one challenge after another. While Jackie’s issues are mostly limited to her complicated romance with Cole and her academic concerns, other characters, like Isaac and Lee, have to face something deeply personal this season. When Jackie came to Silver Falls, she discovered that the Walters had a brood of boys, but two of them were not George and Katherine’s children. Isaac and Lee were George’s nephews who lived under his and Katherine’s care because their parents were away. This season, one of their parents comes back. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Hannah is Another Walter Who Has Been Away Too Long
The first two seasons don’t shed much light on Isaac and Lee’s parents, which is why Hannah’s arrival fills many narrative gaps. It turns out that Hannah has been away because she is too free-spirited to be chained up in one place. George tells Katherine that his sister had always been this way, and instead of grounding her down, he and his parents thought it would be better to let her live her life the way she wanted. What she had wanted was to travel the world on her own terms, and she would have done that, but things changed a bit. She fell in love with a guy she thought shared her dreams. He was supposed to pursue music with his rock band and tour the world.
But then Hannah got pregnant, and the responsibility of raising their children forced her and her partner to abandon their dreams. He joined the army to provide for the family, and Hannah found herself left behind as a single mother. There came a time when it became clear to everyone around her that she was not equipped to take care of her children. So, in her interest and more importantly that of her children, George decided to take Isaac and Lee under his care, leaving Hannah free to live her life the way she wanted. It wasn’t ideal, but it felt like the best thing for everyone.
While the boys have loved their time with their uncle’s family, they have missed their mother, whom they somewhat resent for abandoning them. Hannah’s habit of running away at the first sign of challenge keeps her from being the mother she still wants to be. This time around, she tries her best, but when things get a bit tough, running away remains her first instinct. This time, though, Katherine advises her to say her goodbyes rather than skipping town without any explanation. By doing this, she keeps the door open for her return someday, sparing herself and her sons the heartbreak.
Erin Karpluck Sheds More Light on Isaac and Lee’s Story
Erin Karpluck plays the role of Hannah in the third season of ‘My Life With the Walter Boys.’ She is best known for playing the lead role of Erica Strange in ‘Being Erica.’ She has also appeared in TV shows like ‘A Million Little Things,’ ‘Maid,’ ‘Slasher: Solstice,’ ‘Holly Hobbie,’ and ‘Masters of Sex.’ A native of Jasper, Alberta, Karpluck grew up in a small town with no exposure to acting courses. Her childhood was spent playing hockey and skiing, but she always harbored an interest in acting. When she was accepted into the University of Victoria, she decided to take theatre classes, which led her to pursue a BFA in Theatre. She revealed that she’d never acted before her first theatre class at the college.
However, this was the first step in her acting career, which has now spanned more than two decades. After graduating, she moved to Vancouver and landed several roles in movies and TV shows. Eventually, she started landing roles in shows like James Cameron’s ‘Dark Angel,’ and the Canadian drama series, ‘Godiva’s.’ For the latter, she received the Gemini nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series. She later won the award for her role in ‘Being Erica,’ for which she also received a Leo Award for Best Lead Actress, among several others. With roles like Hannah, Karpluck continues to expand her range, proving herself a versatile actress across all genres.
