6. Helen Hayes as Madelon in ‘The Sin of Madelon Claudet’ (1931)
Helen Hayes plays the role of Madelon a street hooker, who gets cheated and ends up in prison for an offense that she did not commit. She gave birth to a boy and she vows to herself that he’ll never suffer get a good education, be a doctor and good person. She devotes all her life for the success of his son. Helen Hayes offers the audience a variety of contrasting human emotions. She is at one point very confident and at some point, she is broken beyond repair. Although her love and her hope for her son’s success pays off. It is a happy story with nothing unusual about it.
7. Melanie Griffith as V in ‘Milk Money’ (1994)
Melanie Griffith is playing the role of a golden-hearted hooker in this film. In this film, a bunch of immature boys tries to convince V (Melanie Griffith) to date Frank’s father, Tom (Ed Harris). ‘V’ tries to break up from her past and wants to quit her profession. The role of V is a sensitive, caring lady who drops boys back to their home when their bikes are stolen, helps them in their science project (Which was very funny) and a motherly image for Frank. Tom also falls for her but her past keeps haunting. Melanie has done a great job anyways and it is a fun film to watch.
8. Oksana Akishina as Lilja in ‘Lilya 4 Ever’ (2002)
Lilja 4-ever is a film that is going to make you cry. It revolves around the central idea of child trafficking but presents far more than that itself. Lilja is a young beautiful innocent girl. She was abandoned by her family. She finds a true friend in Volodja, a little boy who really likes Lilja. With the tyranny of life falling upon her by being cheated by the boy she loved Andrej, left to starve and forced into prostitution. The portrayal of human selfishness, lying nature and betrayal along with beautiful colors of innocence, hopefulness and a cry to be a human and be treated fairly makes the movie, a fountain of human emotion. It explores love and friendship too. The role of Lilja is moving and heart-rending. She is so innocent that she can not do any harm to anyone and you will end up feeling that all the bad things happen to good people.
9. Marissa Tomei as Cassidy in ‘The Wrestler’ (2008)
Cassidy is an aging stripper/hooker who is already trying to make her finances good so that she can have something after retirement. Cassidy cares about the well-being of the retired wrestler Randy who is having a wretched life. She is a friend and a well-wisher who help and inspires him to set things in order with his daughter and his career. Cassidy is the only person he can talk to about what he feels. Although Cassidy did not involve with any of her customers, she definitely had a growing connection with Randy probably because of the same life both were living.
10. Jamie Lee Curtis as Ophelia in ‘Trading Places’ (1983)
Winthorpe, a broker’s, who is charged with theft and drug dealing and his bank account is frozen out, He seeks the help of a hooker Ophelia & make friends with her. She helps him by providing a place for staying and helps him get acquitted and get his money and dignity back. It is a comedy film and Jamie Lee Curtis came in news because of her naked scene in the film, however, her character is of a hooker with a heart of gold who helps the protagonist get him fame and money back.
