In its fourth season, Prime Video’s ‘Reacher‘ turns into a conspiracy thriller as Jack Reacher must fight against several forces to uncover the truth. Trouble begins when he witnesses the suicide of Anna Merrick on the subway, late one night. The guilt of not having been able to help her leads him to look into her life. He simply wishes to find out what made her kill herself. Instead of finding a simple answer, he finds himself getting dragged into an increasingly dangerous world, where government agencies seem to be among the many people trying to stop him from getting to the bottom of the truth. The only other person who is just as adamant, if not more, about getting justice for Anna is her brother, Jacob. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Chris Marquette Brings Charm to Jacob Merrick
Chris Marquette plays the role of Jacob Merrick in ‘Reacher’ season 4. The actor is known for his performances in productions like ‘Barry,’ ‘I Hate the Man in My Basement,’ ‘Fear, Inc,’ ‘Broken Horses,’ ‘Mozart in the Jungle,’ ‘The Fugitive,’ and ‘Joan of Arcadia,’ to name a few. Hailing from Stuart, Florida, Marquette got into acting at a young age. He was 4 years old when he started doing commercials and modeling. His parents’ support got him going, and at the age of 8, he began working in theatre. At the time, his family had moved to New Jersey. Marquette started with an appearance in the Broadway production of ‘An Inspector Calls’ and later took on the role of Tiny Tim in ‘A Christmas Carol.’ Later, when he moved to New York, he worked on several episodes of ‘Saturday Night Live.’
Marquette got his big-screen break in the 1996 film ‘Sweet Nothing.’ Since then, he has worked in a wide variety of movies and TV shows, showcasing his versatility as an actor. In ‘Reacher’ season 4, Marquette takes on the role of a police officer whose life is turned upside down after his sister kills herself on the subway. Initially, Jay Baruchel was set to play the role. However, personal issues reportedly led him to leave the project, opening the door for Marquette. Reportedly, he was confirmed for the role on the day the breakdown was released. Since the project was already in motion, he had to get into the character’s skin within days and be ready to bring Jacob to life on screen. Reacher meets Jacob the morning after Anna’s death.
As expected, Jacob is distraught at the passing of his sister, but he also seems convinced that she didn’t kill herself, or if she did, it wasn’t because of some personal issues. He thinks there is something else going on with the case and decides to look into it himself. It takes him a while to realize that the thing his sister got caught up in is much more complicated than he’d imagined. He would have been in over his head with the investigation if it weren’t for Reacher shouldering the responsibility and taking charge, knowing that innocent people like Jacob are not built to face all this on their own. At least, not without breaking down in the process. Sure enough, the shocking revelations of the investigation rattle Jacob, but they do nothing to dampen his resolve to get justice for his sister.
