‘Komi Can’t Communicate’ or ‘Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu.’ season 1 is all set to premiere sometime in October 2021 on TV Tokyo. With Ayumu Watanabe as the chief director and Kazuki Kawagoe helming the directorial team, the slice of life romantic comedy anime is being developed by the Japanese animation and film studio OLM, formerly Oriental Light and Magic.

Atsuko Nakajima, who has previously been involved with dark-fantasy anime ‘Trinity Blood,’ will serve as the character designer while Deko Akao (‘Carole & Tuesday’ and ‘After the Rain’) is going to lead the writing staff.

When Shouko Komi enrolls at the elite Itan Private High School, she immediately turns heads and becomes the most popular girl because of her breathtaking beauty and stoic appearance. However, her flawless public facade conveniently acts as a mask covering the sad reality that the school’s prettiest girl struggles with extreme social anxiety.

Her inner conflict, unfortunately, stands in her way, and Komi, as a result, has no friends. However, most of her classmates fail to see her for more than just her outward appearance and even wrongly perceive her anxiety as a refined class. Hirohito Tadano, an average student who sits next to Komi, soon figures out that she has trouble communicating with others. After accidentally getting knocked out and almost getting to talk to her, Hirohito vows to help Komi socialize and make at least one hundred friends.

Sadly, the teenager is in for a world of surprise as he had not even managed to get her to talk to him so far.
