Lisa Kudrow Joins Whitney Cummings Comedy Pilot ‘Good People’

Lisa Kudrow has signed on to star in the Amazon comedy pilot ‘Good People’ alongside Whitney Cummings. Both Kudrow and Cummings also serve as executive producers in the project, which is directed and executive produced by Lee Daniels of ‘Empire‘ fame. Amazon Studios produces the half-hour pilot in association with Fox 21 Television Studios, reports Variety.

‘Good People’ is reportedly set in the office of a college ombudsman. The plot follows three generations of women working at the office and how they navigate through contemporary cultural space. According to Amazon’s logline, ‘Good People’ explores “the concept of feminism across different generations and the struggle to reconcile socially constructed ideas with current ethical views regarding complex issues such as sex, race, class and gender.”

Kudrow plays the role of Lynn Steele, who is the college ombudsman. She considers herself an exhausted and volatile woman and it makes very difficult for her to interact with the younger generation. Though she is an outcast at the office, Steele keeps an impressive track record as an employee, which makes her a force to reckon with for other staff. Cummings also plays an undisclosed role.

Lynn Steel is Kudrow’s first regular role in a series since Showtime’s ‘Web Therapy,’ which ran from 2011 to 2015. Kudrow’s stunning portrayal of Fiona Wallice, a web therapist who offers online therapy sessions, went on to become a huge success. The role earned her widespread critical acclaim and several award nominations.

Her upcoming projects include the NBC docu-series ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ The genealogy documentary is an adaptation of the BBC doc of the same name, which features a celebrity guest who traces back through their family tree in each episode. Kudrow serves as executive producer as well as a guest star in one of the episodes in season 1. In May 2019, NBC announced its decision to renew ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ for the 12th season.

Kudrow emerged as a prominent actor with her breakout role of Phoebe in the popular sitcom ‘Friends.’ She earned six Emmy Award nominations for her performance on the show. Her other major titles include ‘The Comeback,’ ‘Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion’ and ‘Girl on the Train.’

On the other hand, Cummings is known for the CBS sitcom ‘2 Broke Girls,’ which ran from 2011 to 2017. She has also earned critical acclaim as the creator and lead actor in the NBC sitcom ‘Whitney’ (2011–2013). She served as one of the producers and writer for the ABC reboot of the hit show ‘Roseanne.’
