My 600-lb Life Season 8 Episode 13 Recap:
37-year-old Dominic Hernandez tips the scales at 672 pounds when we first meet him in episode 13. He lives in a van with his elder brother James in California. Fed up with his heavy weight, Dominic decides to meet celebrity bariatric surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, accompanied by James.
Dom’s addiction to food started when his dad left him and he was a victim of sexual abuse. The reality star tells that they lost their home when their mom passed away. In the episode, Dom explains his childhood saying: “No one wants to be the big kid in high school. So I tried to control my eating some, but I never really could.”
Dr. Now, after checking Dom, gives him a weight-loss goal of 60 pounds. But in the first weigh-in, he is able to lose only 26 lbs. In the next appointment, rather than losing any mass, Dom ends up gaining 3 lbs more. In the final weigh-in, he still measures 650 lbs. Dr. Now is forced to ask him to leave the program and return only when he is more serious to actually embrace a healthy life.
On a positive note, toward the end of the episode, we learn that James manages to find some work and the brothers also are now living in a stable home. Dom continues to visit his therapist who is guiding him on building a healthier lifestyle.
