Romance and heartbreak continue in the third season of Netflix’s ‘My Life With the Walter Boys.’ While Jackie finally resolves her love triangle with Cole and Alex, others are still caught up in the consequences of their past actions. One of those people is Nate Walter, who ruined a perfectly good relationship with Skylar in Season 2 while following his temporary feelings for Zach. It turned out that the new love interest had entirely different plans, and Nate’s misjudgment regarding him cost him what could have been his happily ever after with Skylar. By the end of the third season, the possibility of their reunion seems even more impossible. SPOILERS AHEAD.
The Shadow of Their Breakup Haunts Nate and Zack in Season 3
Everyone makes mistakes in a relationship, and had it been anything else, Skylar would probably have forgiven Nate and gotten back together with him. However, Nate’s mistake was kissing Zach and breaking Skylar’s heart, and despite acknowledging that Zach had duped him, Skylar refused to let Nate get away with it so easily. He found it best for himself to be alone for a while, and this is where we find him at the beginning of Season 3. Nate still feels guilty for his actions, but there is nothing he can do, so he, too, focuses on other things. To their credit, things are still amicable between them. Skylar even tries to include Zach by giving him a school project.

It is also clear that he still cares about the Walter boy, since he calls Katherine as soon as he discovers that Nate has not been taking his meds and is at risk of having a seizure. While there are clearly still some feelings between them, they both know getting back together isn’t happening just yet. And then, Nate gets an opportunity that will make it even more impossible for it to happen. Over the summer, the school band gets a chance to tour in Europe. Since it is a big opportunity, the teachers decide to hold proper auditions for the band, so the best students get the chance to join, in a way that might change their lives forever. Nate, too, auditions for it, and in the finale, he reveals that he has been selected and will join the band on their tour.
Skylar and Nate May Have Parted Ways for Good
While this doesn’t mean his feelings for Skylar will go away easily now, it does show that he is finally ready to move on rather than sulking in his guilt and wondering when, if at all, he will get back together with his ex. Skylar, too, sees it as a great step forward for him and has nothing but the best wishes for him. At Jackie’s party in the speakeasy, Nate tells Skylar about his plans. This is also his chance to say a proper goodbye instead of just packing his bags and vanishing for good. Skylar is glad he chose to tell him and that they got to sit down and have a proper conversation, which they haven’t had in a long time. There is also some pain in Skylar’s eyes because he knows that this might as well be goodbye forever.

Still, it is clear to them both that their relationship had run its course long ago, and what happened with Zach was just a symptom, not the cause. Skylar confesses that he will miss Nate, but since it is in both of their best interests, they share this moment before possibly parting ways for good. This goodbye also hints that Nate might not be around next season, which could open the door for Skylar to pursue a new love interest. If that happens, it really could mean that there is no hope of him and Nate getting back together. For now, however, one can still hold on to hope that distance will give them a bit more clarity on their feelings, and when Nate returns home, he and Skylar might be on the same page about picking things up where they left off.
