Prime Video’s ‘Reacher’ returns for another action-packed season where the protagonist refuses to walk away from a wrong that has unfolded right in front of his eyes. Jack Reacher becomes entangled in the investigation into the suicide of a woman named Anna Merrick, who turns out to have been involved in an even more dangerous situation. With each episode, things get more and more difficult for Reacher, and like always, he could do with someone he blindly trusts. So far, Frances Neagley has been that person for him. She has appeared in all past seasons, which raises the question of her return in Season 4. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Neagley Might Enter the Fray in the Second Half of Reacher
‘Reacher’ is inspired by the book series of the same name by Lee Child. The author presented his protagonist as a lone wolf who works on his own, facing all sorts of dangers. The show, however, gives Reacher unconditional support in the form of Neagley. While her role in the books is comparatively reduced, the show expands her role to the point that she has become a de facto second lead alongside Reacher, despite only appearing in a recurring capacity. A major reason for this extension is the character’s popularity among fans. Since the show’s debut, Neagley has become one of the fan favorites, leading to her own spin-off, set to be released in September.

Interestingly, the entire first season of ‘Neagley’ will be released on the same day as the ‘Reacher’ Season 4 finale. This immediate follow-up makes one wonder why the show’s creators chose such a release pattern. One of the reasons behind this decision could be that ‘Reacher’ Season 4 finale sets up the events such that they lead the audience into the narrative of ‘Neagley.’ We know that Reacher will appear in the spin-off’s several episodes, which means that we might see Neagley reunite with him closer to the finale. So far, there has been no confirmation about Neagley’s presence or absence from ‘Reacher’ Season 4. She is missing from the season’s trailer, and since she is based in Chicago, she is far from Reacher’s case, which is unfolding in Philadelphia.
Still, distance hasn’t stopped her from coming to Reacher’s aid before, and he will likely not call upon her until he is in a situation that he can’t get out of himself. Considering all this, it is fair to assume that Maria Sten’s beloved character might not show up in the first half of the show. In fact, Neagley might not even appear until the finale. With her own TV show lined up, the show’s creators might have finally broken the pattern of having her with Reacher in every season. This means she might not appear until the case is already solved. In any case, her appearance would be much welcomed, especially since it would prepare the audience for her own story, where Reacher takes the backseat, and she kicks ass all on her own.
