Philip and Constance McGoldrick: What Happened to Holly Marie’s Adoptive Parents?

The story of Holly Marie, whose biological parents, Dean and Tina Clouse, are believed to have been killed around 1980, baffled everyone when it became public. Their remains were found in January 1981 in Harris County, Texas, but there was no sign of their daughter, Holly Marie. It was only in June 2022 that she was located in Oklahoma, which revealed that she had been adopted by Philip and Constance McGoldrick. ABC’s ’20/20,’ especially the episode ‘Baby Holly Found,’ features an interview with Philip, who spoke about the circumstances under which the baby came into their lives and how things eventually unfolded for their family.

Philip and Constance McGoldrick Were Hoping for a Second Child When Baby Holly Came Into Their Lives

Philip and Constance McGoldrick were based in Yuma, Arizona, in 1980. Philip was a pastor at his local church, and the couple already had a daughter. They had always wished to have another baby and hoped that it would eventually happen. Around late 1980, Philip said that two women dressed in white robes and barefoot knocked on his door with a baby in their arms. According to him, they said they were looking for someone at the church who could take care of the child. Philip recalled that one of the women identified herself as the baby’s mother. They also reportedly had a note signed by a man named Dean Clouse, stating that he was relinquishing custody of his daughter.

That note has never been verified as having been written by Dean. Philip said the women told him they belonged to a nomadic religious group and could not take the child with them. According to Philip, they left very quickly, leaving him with more questions about the baby’s circumstances. At first, he wondered who could take the child in, but eventually he and Constance decided they would adopt her. Philip said he consulted his lawyer, who advised them to place a notice in the newspaper and wait six months in case anyone came forward to claim the child. When that period passed without anyone coming forward, Philip and Constance proceeded with the adoption.

They named her Holly Miller and raised her with love and affection. They never hid the story of how she had come into their lives. As a teenager, Holly grew curious about her birth parents, and they even took her to Texas to look for answers. However, because she was still a minor, much of the information about her biological family could not be shared with her. Eventually, Philip and Constance separated, with the former moving to Oklahoma while Philip remained in Yuma, Arizona. It was not until June 2022 that investigators arrived at Philip’s door. He said it took him about half an hour to realize that he was being questioned as a suspect. However, the transparency of his account and the verifiable information he provided about Holly’s adoption ultimately cleared him of suspicion.

Philip and Constance McGoldrick Have Not Discussed Their Lives in Public

Philip and Constance McGoldrick continue to hold a very special place in Holly Miller’s life. She eventually moved to Oklahoma, where she lives with her five children. It allows her to remain close to her mother. Philip’s life has remained relatively simple over the years. He continues to be active in his community and remains close to Holly. He has also helped investigators in every way he could, providing them with whatever information he remembered. His descriptions of the women who left Holly with him reportedly helped investigators identify them as members of the Christ Family. Both Philip and Constance otherwise maintain a low profile, and little is publicly known about their current lives.
