Psycho Pass Season 4: Premiere Date, Plot, Characters

Produced by Production I.G, ‘Psycho Pass’ is known to be one of the best psychological anime of all time. From its top-notch animation quality to its didactic themes, from its riveting storyline to its amazingly choreographed action scenes, everything about it is just brilliant. That’s probably the reason why the hype around its second season was off the charts. And though its fan following dwindled a little by the time it reached its season 3, the series has still managed to impress its fan base with its sci-fi atmosphere, detailed animation, and deep political themes.

With that said, since season 3 has finally come to an end, you’re probably wondering if the series will return with a sequel. So here’s everything you need to know about its season 4.

Psycho Pass Season 4 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Psycho Pass’ season 1 premiered on October 12, 2012 and went on till Mar 22, 2013. During this span, the anime aired a total of 22 episodes and became an instant hit. Soon after this, the second season released on Oct 10, 2014, and with a total of 11 episodes, it went on till Dec 19, 2014. The second season was then followed by four original movies and finally, the anime aired its third season from Oct 25, 2019 to Dec 13, 2019. Now, since ‘Psycho Pass’ is an entirely original anime and has not been adapted from a manga or a light novel series, in order for a 4th season to happen, season 3 needs to sell well.

Contrarily, the fact that Season 3 leaves so many plot points unexplored, a season 4 seems necessary. Though season 1 is still considered to be the best out of all three, compared to season 2, the response received by the third installment has been quite positive so far. The good news is that Production I.G has already announced a movie sequel for ‘Psycho Pass 3’ which is slated to screen in Japan in Spring 2020. The film will also be streamed on Amazon Prime. When it comes to a whole new season, we’ll just have to wait and see and as soon as we get any news regarding it, we will update it here in this section. Till then, you can check out the anime on our list of other similar anime shows.

As far as the fourth season of the show is concerned, we will come to know about it once the movie comes out. There’s a good chance that the makers would like to continue such a popular franchise. If renewed, you can expect Psycho Pass season 4 to release sometime in 2021 or later.

Psycho Pass English Dub:

The English dub of ‘Psycho Pass’ Season 1 is available on Funimation and you can find the subbed version of its third season on Amazon Prime.

Psycho Pass Plot:

The first few seasons of ‘Psycho Pass’ introduce us to the Sibyl System, through which, the mental state of the society is measured on a numerical scale. Based on this, a “crime coefficient” is deduced to apprehend criminals before they commit any crimes. As controversial as it may seem, the trust of many citizens lies in this system of justice.

Season 3 introduces Kei Mikhail Ignatov and Arata Shindou, who work at the Public Safety Bureau’s Crime Investigation Department and solve crimes in their “dystopian” world. It all starts with a mysterious plane crash in which an immigrant ends up dying. But as they begin to further delve into this case, they find themselves in the middle of a huge conspiracy that is being governed by a group of really powerful people known as the Bifrost.

Psycho Pass Characters:

Kei Mikhail Ignatov

Kei is one of the main protagonists of Season 3. He is an Inspector at the first division of the Public Safety Bureau’s Crime Investigation Department. In appearance, he looks tough and walks around with a stern look on his face. He is quite tall and has black hair with small blue eyes. For the most part of the series, he maintains a stoic demeanor towards his surroundings and puts up a good fight when necessary. He also has a very strong sense of justice and because of this, when he perceives someone being treated in the wrong way, he does not hold himself back. He may not express it too often, but he cares about the people who are close to him; especially his wife. His expertise in combat and shooting comes from his former military background.

Arata Shindou

Arata Shindou is another Inspector at the first division of the Public Safety Bureau’s Crime Investigation Department and he usually works with Kei. Unlike most other investigators from his line of work, he also possesses a supernatural ability known as the “mental trace”, which allows him to temporarily teleport himself to a particular crime scene and understand how the actual events of the whole crime unfolded. Arata Shindo, unlike Kei, is usually seen with a smile on his face and he can also act a bit too childish at times. But he takes all of his investigations very seriously and also has a strong sense of justice. He’s goofy, optimistic and is surprisingly very good at parkour. Unlike Kei, for the most part, he never makes any hasty decisions out of anger.
