Created by Graham Yost and based on the eponymous trilogy of novels by author Hugh Howey, Apple TV’s ‘Silo’ returns with a third and penultimate season to track the aftermath of Juliette’s miraculous journey back home. However, with Camille joining the Algorithm in its plan to essentially reset the memory of the entirety of Silo 18, time seems to be running out. Juliette, grappling with the gaps in her own memory, gets a deal to send two others out of the silo. Though she claims that it is to rescue children, the real plan is to inspect the neighboring Silo 17 and figure out a way to save everyone back home. However, the Algorithm also appears ready to play these chess games, and somewhere along the lines, the lives of Lucas and Kennedy come to lie at stake. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Lucas and Kennedy Might Still be Alive, But Trapped Outside Silo 18
In season 3 episode 7 of ‘Silo,’ Lucas Kyle and Patrick Kennedy become the second and third people to ever walk out of Silo 18 and survive the cleaning process. However, that victory is short-lived, as they are soon surrounded by a whizzing sound that gives way to a barrage of bullets. In that moment, the silo loses all contact with Lucas and Kennedy, and the Algorithm soon confirms what everyone’s been dreading: the death of Lucas and Kennedy. However, the AI entity has a track record of making very faulty observations and calculations, and this time seems no different. It would be too odd for two important characters to be off-screen in such a hurried fashion, and that can only mean one thing: they are still alive.
‘Silo’ is no stranger to fakeout deaths as a narrative tool, with the most timely example being Bernard, whose death is revealed earlier this season and is subverted only a few episodes later. There is even more ambiguity in the case of Lucas and Kennedy, as we never even see them getting shot. Based on the sounds preceding the bullets, it appears that these were drone strikes or something to that effect, rather than humans. Thus, in the dead of the night, it is entirely possible for the drones to completely miss Lucas and Kennedy. As such, this might be their golden chance to sneak their way into Silo 17 and learn the truth about how to save humanity, all the while being registered as dead or missing in official records.
Avi Nash and Rick Gomez Are Likely to Return Soon
Given that Lucas Kyle and Patrick Kennedy are most likely to rejoin the story, fans can expect actors Avi Nash and Rick Gomez to reprise their roles in the upcoming episodes. Chances are, they will return as part of a grand twist or setup, revealing that they somehow survived the presumed gunfire and have been on their mission ever since. Conversely, we might even get their point of view in the very next episode, but the bottom line is that their return is extremely likely. For Avi Nash in particular, this development shouldn’t be new, as she missed out on most of season 3 due to a fakeout death plotline. As such, the upcoming episodes can bring him an opportunity to flex more of his acting talents.
While Lucas and Kennedy are technically core members of entirely different, and even downright opposing groups, this plotline brings them together, and it is a delight to see Nash and Gomez share that dynamic on screen. For the characters to be killed off so unceremoniously would significantly dampen what is shaping up to be an underrated dynamic in ‘Silo,’ which is all the more reason it’s a fakeout. For Gomez’s character in particular, there is an entire arc that can only unfold after the Silo 17 mission is over, as Kennedy vows to travel the world on his own terms after that. However, this same idea can also be interpreted as a death flag for the character, and fans will have to patiently wait and watch for now.
