When Will ‘Virgin River’ Return on Netflix?

The first season of Virgin River was met with an enthusiastic response. Even though many critics felt the series bore resemblance to many Hallmark shows, audiences were head over heels in love with the show. So, it was natural that soon after season 1 premiered, fans of the show wanted to know when will Virgin River season 2 release and what could it be about. Well, we are here to answer precisely that question. Read on.

Virgin River Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Virgin River season 1 premiered on December 6, 2019, on Netflix in all its entirety of 10 episodes.

As far as the next season goes, here’s the good news. Netflix was sure of the show’s success even before its premiere. Although the official announcement of its renewal came in December 2019, it was reported that production had already began for a second season in September 2019. The official confirmation regarding the renewal was made by Netflix’s official Twitter handle.

It has also been reported that filming of season 2 ended on December 17, 2019. Which means the show is in post production right now. Our best estimate is that Virgin River season 2 will most likely release sometime in August 2020. Our calculation is based on the fact that season 1 was released almost eight to nine months after its shooting concluded and we expect Netflix to follow a similar schedule this time as well. It has already been confirmed that the upcoming season will consist of 10 episodes.

Virgin River Season 2 Cast: Who is in it?

The lead cast of Virgin River features Alexandra Breckenridge as Melinda Monroe. Mel moves from Los Angeles to Virgin River to work as a nurse practitioner and midwife. Alexandra is joined by Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan, who owns a local bar in the small town and had previously worked in the U.S. Marine. He is a victim of PTSD.

Colin Lawrence stars as John “Preacher” Middleton, Jack close friend and a chef at the same bar where the former works. Jenny Cooper plays Joey Barnes, Melinda’s elder sibling, and Lauren Hammersley enacts the role of Charmaine Roberts, Jack’s friend with benefits. Annette O’Toole portrays Hope McCrea, Virgin River’s mayor, while Tim Matheson is Vernon “Doc” Mullins, MD, the local doctor in the town.

Although no news about additional cast members have arrived yet, we expect most of the lead cast to reprise their original characters in season 2.

Virgin River Season 2 Plot: What can it about?

Virgin River is a romance drama and a Netflix original series that is loosely based on the eponymous novels written by Robyn Carr. Mel, who resides in the bustling city of LA, decides to move to Virgin River — in order to leave behind her painful memories and to revel in the peaceful small-town life. But things don’t go as per plan. Mel realizes that in order to accept this town as her home, she must first heal herself.

Yes, the journey is not smooth for our protagonist. And as her past continues to haunt her, she cannot even decide how to go ahead with her relationship with Jack. Toward the end, she even tells her sister that she wants to come back home. Yes, the season ends on a cliffhanger and we desperately need to know if Mel will actually leave everything behind. Again, there are several unanswered questions about Paige and Christopher Lassiter. And what about Brady. How will he fare after ditching Jack?

Well, we hope to get answers for all our questions in the next season. After all, the Virgin River book series has several novels. So, there’s no dearth of content. We just have to wait for the second installment to get some befitting end to these characters’ storylines.
