Watch the First Trailer of ‘Westworld’ Season 3

HBO has unveiled the first look at the long-awaited season 3 of the sci-fi series ‘Westworld.’ The trailer introduces the new cast member Aaron Paul, who is known for ‘Breaking Bad,’ with Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage” playing in the background. Aaron’s character is seen searching for meaning and authenticity in a futuristic theme park populated with robots. The trailer generates a feeling of disquiet and impending doom. It also hints a departure from the first two seasons of the sci-fi drama series.

The trailer takes us along with Aaron’s character who walks along a bridge. Then he bumps into Evan Rachel Wood’s character Dolores Abernathy, the oldest host in the theme park. “Do you need some help?” Paul asks her. But she looks up at him with an evil glee in her eyes. In most of the scenes, Aaron’s character passes through life-threatening situations with flying ships and advanced cars in the backdrop.

French actor Vincent Cassel joins the cast of the upcoming third season. Tessa Thompson and Lena Waithe are the other two new cast members. Jeffrey Wright, Thandie Newton and Anthony Hopkins played important characters in the first two seasons. They are expected to reprise their respective roles in season 3.

‘Westworld’ is created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy based on the 1973 movie of the same name directed by Michael Crichton. The plot centers on ‘Westworld,’ a Wild-West-styled high-tech amusement park which caters only to elite guests. The park is populated by advanced generations of android bots called ‘hosts.’ They are programmed in such a way that the privileged guests can play their wildest fantasies without any worries.

“I’m excited to explore the idea of the host as guests, as Bernard and Dolores are guests now,” Wright told THR soon after the season 2 finale. “The mirror reflection seems that it’s turned on this new [incarnation of] Westworld, and that is the human world. I think the exploration now of [pretending to be] human inside this world as hosts could be rich territory. Once again, it seems there’s a possibility, again, without having read one word of season three, that the worlds are turned upside down and inside out once more.”

The first two seasons of the series showcased themes like artificial consciousness and the emergence of a new life form on Earth. But the first look trailer of season three hasn’t slipped out anything about the plot and themes in the pipeline. J.J. Abrams, Athena Wickham, Richard J. Lewis, and Ben Stephenson are the executive producers. Kilter Films and Bad Robot Productions produce the series in association with Warner Bros. Television.

HBO dropped the trailer of ‘Westworld’ season 3 moments before the ‘Game of Thrones‘ finale on Sunday night.
