‘Heartbreak Island’ season 1 was seemingly filmed around January 2018, and the second season was filmed around March 2019. Fiji

The show is predominantly filmed in Fiji, a country housing more than 300 islands. Its picturesque beaches combined with the palm-lined horizon serve as the perfect backdrop for men and women in their 20s searching for love. Season 1 was reportedly filmed at the beautiful Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, located at Savusavu Road, Momi Bay in Nadi. The show tried to be reticent about the filming details, but when ‘The Bachelor’ star Matilda Rice, the co-host of ‘Heartbreak Island,’ was spotted chilling at the beach, rumors began to circulate on the internet.

A spokesperson further added that they wanted a tropical location where they could film ‘Heartbreak Island,’ rendering Fiji as the perfect option. The cast and crew flit across multiple resorts and locations that were eventually featured in the show. One of them happens to be the Musket Cove Island Resort & Marina, situated in the Mamanuca Islands off Fiji’s west coast. Season 2 winner Ceejay Smart posted a picture of himself on the set of the series.

The production company additionally thanked the Governments of Fiji and New Zealand for their support, especially the New Zealand Film Commission, Film Fiji, and the New Zealand Government’s Screen Production Grant. A spokesperson for TVNZ and Imagination TV said that the production of each season takes around six months, out of which six weeks are reserved for filming on a Pacific island.

Auckland, New Zealand

When the cast and crew were not busy sauntering or sunbathing in the majestic islands of Fiji, they returned to New Zealand to film the rest of the show. Some parts of it were filmed in The Lula Inn, a South Pacific restaurant and bar located along the border of the ocean in downtown Auckland. A few episodes in the second season featuring the speed dating round were shot there.

Besides Auckland, other parts of the North Island region of New Zealand have also been featured in numerous episodes. Contestant Alexandre Vaz released pictures of him strolling in the Mercer Bay Loop area towards the west of Auckland as well as Warkworth, situated north of the most popular North Island city.
