Directed by Christine Luby, ‘This Little Love of Mine’ is a romantic-drama movie that follows Laura, a young, ambitious lawyer living in San Francisco far away from her childhood home on the tropical island where she grew up. In a strange turn of events, she gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to return to her roots while on the cusp of a promotion with the chance of turning her career around.
With the film entirely taking place on an island, the makers had to look for a location that is not only close to beaches but also to a city that can double up as San Francisco. With so many candidates around the world, which one did the cast and crew visited? In case you are curious to find out, we have got you covered.
This Little Love of Mine Filming Locations
‘This Little Love of Mine’ was filmed entirely in Queensland. Located in the northeast region of Australia, the state is famous for its beaches and the Great Barrier Reef, which is the world’s most extensive coral reef system. Filming for the movie reportedly commenced sometime in June 2020 and wrapped up in just 16 days (according to the director Christine Luby), sometime around mid-July 2020. The film’s production was done in several locations in the state. So we decided to learn more about them, and here’s everything we could find out.
Cairns, Queensland
A significant portion of the filming for Christine Luby’s debut feature film took place in Cairns. Gateway to the tropical Daintree Rainforest and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, the city is located in the Far North Queensland region and is a major transportation hub of the continent.

It reportedly doubled up as San Francisco as the bio-bubble, and other COVID-19 travel bans and restrictions limited the options for the producers. Its proximity to another filming location, i.e., Palm Cove, was probably another major reason that the movie was filmed in this part of Australia.
Palm Cove, Queensland
Located 27 kilometers north of Cairns in Queensland, Palm Cove is the principal filming location for the romantic-drama movie. The entire cast and crew spent over six weeks in a production bubble in Alamanda Palm Cove located at 1 Veivers Road, Palm Cove Queensland 4879.
‘This Little Love of Mine’ was the first film production project in the region after the coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc worldwide. To make things as smooth as possible, everyone was regularly tested for COVID-19, practiced social distancing, maintained good hygiene, and took regular temperature checks.
The region’s tropical climate provided the ideal filming conditions along with the palm trees and long sandy beach on its seafront, where almost all of the scenes depicting the tropical island where Laura grew up were filmed.
