From its perfectly animated figure skating moments to its portrayal of the central love story between Victor and Yuri, everything about ‘Yuri on Ice‘ is just incredible. Its biggest advantage has always been that it is an anime original and does not suffer from any kind of adaptation issues. Moreover, since it is directed by Sayo Yamamoto (‘Space Dandy’), it was being hyped much before its release.
But the biggest sell out of this show is not the fact that it’s a unique sports anime which beautifully depicts the fluid movements of ice skaters. It is its depiction of relationships that go beyond the rink of ice skating, which has made it such a popular anime today. Pretty much like all other sports anime out there, it does revolve around an underdog who dreams of being the master of his sport. It highlights his journey as he makes his way from the bottom to the top. However, along with that, it also subtly foreshadows his relationship with his coach. And it’s this relationship that keeps you hooked to it till its end.
Apart from its deep characters and inspiring storyline, even the production value is brilliant. The setting and the backgrounds are just stunning and all the visuals that portray the movements of the characters in the rink have been directed in a way that they perfectly capture the unique style of each ice skater.
The soundtracks, theme songs and most of all, the voice mannerism bring out a sense of realism to its plot. ‘Yuri on Ice’ may not really suit everyone’s taste, but every anime lover should at least give it a shot. If you were impressed by the first season as much as we were, you’re probably starting to wonder if the anime will ever return with the second season as it promised somewhere near the end of its first installment. Well, we might have some good news for you in the next section.
Yuri on Ice Movie Release Date: When will it premiere?
The first season of ‘Yuri on Ice’ premiered on October 6, 2019 and ended on December 22, 2016. This season has a total of 12 episodes and each one of them has a runtime of 23 minutes. ‘Yuri on Ice’ did phenomenally well with its first season and since then, otakus have been anticipating its sequel. A new ‘Yuri on Ice’ movie, titled, ‘Yuri On Ice: Ice Adolescence?’, has finally been announced and it is again animated by MAPPA Studio.
The movie was initially slated for a release in the year 2019 but according to its official website, in order to scale up its content, the film has now been scheduled for a release in 2020. The final release date has not been announced yet, but we can expect ‘Yuri on Ice’ movie to premiere in June 2020 or later.
MAPPA Studio has not revealed any other details about the movie so far, but according to reports, the film is more of a side story to the original anime and its plot explores the early skating career Victor, who is one of the main characters from the first season.

A teaser trailer of ‘Yuri On Ice: Ice Adolescence?’ is also now available. However, the trailer does not reveal much about the show and is more or less of a poster for it. In the teaser, Victor can be seen on a beach with his dog and if this is a mere glimpse of the actual visuals of the anime, we can certainly expect it to have some incredible animation throughout.
