6. Bored to Death (2009-2011)
Just another comedy series having Zach Galifianakis playing sidekick. Very fascinating to see a young writer moonlight as an unlicensed private detective in Brooklyn, New York. Brooklyn is literally the best place for modern detective work as shown in this series. Zach as ‘Ray Hueston’ absorbs himself into the character of a comic book artist.
5. The Lego Batman Movie (2017)
One could always tell that ‘Joker’ was a character Zach Galifianakis would perfectly fit. All the wittiness, evil intentions and the various theories which separated him from the world he wished to destroy- am I talking about the ‘Joker’ or an evil version of Zach. It is difficult to not think of him as capable of portraying the Joker in the feature films as well. While the animated-film received mostly positive words, Zach’s Joker was particularly hailed.
4. The Hangover Part III (2013)
The third and unfortunately, the last film in this hilarious franchise had us see a totally different side of Alan Garner (Zach Galifianakis). It’s difficult to imagine a matured and loving angle to this character. The only strong relationship you saw him have was with Ken Jeong’s Chow and that too ended as he realized that their friendship was bad for the world and separated from him. Momentarily. This film shows how Todd Phillips has mastered the art of adult comedies over the years.
3. Birdman (2014)
Usually, we have seen Zach play the crazy guy on-screen but this one came as a surprise. In the ‘Best Picture Oscar’ winner ‘Birdman’, he plays second fiddle to Michael Keaton’s character, being the sensible one of the lot. He is the one trying to keep the play going without any problems. It was so refreshing to see Zach Galifianakis in this matured character for a change. Although Michael Keaton runs away with the show, his sidekick performance received a lot of attention too.
2. Due Date (2010)
Now, this film packs a lot of misadventures in it. An architect trying to reach his wife for the due date and an aspiring actor both are thrown off the plane and thus, embark on a trip of misadventures with things going from bad to worst. But ultimately, the key is the happy ending. Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis form a perfect combo who put all sorts of emotions on display through the course of the film. One of the best performances of Galifianakis in yet another Todd Phillips comedy.
1. The Hangover (2009)
With this film, Alan Garner (Galifianakis) not only became a role model for us on how to party in Vegas but also on how to raise the style quotient using a man purse (Oops, a satchel). His performance shadowed everyone else as it is a complete Alan show. The film was followed by two sequels although neither of them could match this one’s greatness. A bag full of craziness, plenty of humor, friendship goals (WOLF PACK) and a lesson on how drugs are bad for the system; ‘The Hangover’ is an experience of a lifetime.
