Showrunners Reveal Aaron Paul’s ‘Westworld’ Season 3 Details

Showrunners of the hit HBO drama series ‘Westworld,’ Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, have shared some snippets of the character details and setting of the upcoming season 3. In an interview with EW on Wednesday, Nolan and Joy also teased a few hints about Aaron Paul’s character in the third season.

According to the EW interview, Paul will portray the role of Caleb, a construction worker who crosses paths with Evan Rachel Wood’s character. Set in the backdrop of a futuristic Los Angeles, the third season is expected to explore the impacts of the real world life such as cultural shock on Dolores and other hosts.

“Aaron’s character will challenge Dolores’ notions about the nature of humanity,” Nolan told EW. “He’s the type of person who doesn’t get to go to Westworld.”

“This is season is a little less of a guessing game and more of an experience with the hosts finally getting to meet their makers,” added co-showrunner Nolan.

Apart from Paul’s secretive protagonist, the series features Lena Waithe, Scott Mescudi and Marshawn Lynch in major roles. Wood’s Dolores is the only returning character in the cast as of now.

“I love shows that find a groove and hang with it for 100 episodes — that was never this show,” Nolan said. “We always wanted every season to find our characters in radically different circumstances. And with a cast this talented, watching the metamorphosis of all these characters is one of the most fun parts.”

“We’re looking at the aftermath of the massacre in the park,” added Joy. “After all they went through to get out of the park, Dolores finally got what she wanted, so we wanted to see how she interacts with the world and what her plan is. That’s a part of the story we were excited to tell.”

Season 2 finale saw the robot hosts of the ‘Westworld’ taking up arms against the human guests and technicians. As an aftermath of the rebellion, Dolores steps out of her robotic world into the stark realities of the actual world.

The recently unveiled first look of ‘Westworld‘ season 3 hints at a radical change in the plot setting and treatment. As the escaped hosts start interacting with the outside world and the human ways of societal living, the third season is expected to be more dramatic and humane. Nolan already teased that there would be a significant change in the show from season to season. HBO has lined up ‘Westworld’ for a 2020 premiere.
