Check Out Final Season Trailer for ‘Orange is the New Black’

Netflix has dropped the official trailer for the seventh and final season of prison drama series ‘The Orange is the New Black.’ Billed as “the epic conclusion of the series that changed everything,” the trailer gives a sneak peek into the hope flickering in the midst of grim prison realities. Within a two-minute duration, the clip hints at an emotional ending for the storylines of current and former inmates of Litchfield Penitentiary. The unexpected entrant in the full-length trailer is the chicken that lured Piper (Taylor Schilling) in season 1.

“This is a special chicken,” says Suzanne (Uzo Aduba) in the clip, “This is a magical chicken.”

According to Netflix’s official description, the final season depicts Piper’s struggles to cope-up with the life outside the prison while living inside the walls of Litchfield continues as monotonous as ever. Taystee (Danielle Brooks) and Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore) still keep their bond alive while Taystee’s life sentence approaches. Gloria (Selenis Leyva) and her kitchen team stumble upon Polycon’s new profit policy to cut down the expenses. Other ladies of Litchfield are torn between intoxicating dreams and depressing realities of the prison.

Created by Jenji Kohan, ‘Orange is the New Black’ is based on the real-life experiences of Piper Kerman depicted in her memoir ‘Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison.’ The series debuted in July 2013 on Netflix and garnered widespread critical acclaim including four Emmys out of 19 nominations. After the humongous success, Netflix renewed the series for a fifth, sixth, and seventh season in February 2016. In October 2018, the streaming giant announced that the seventh season would wrap up the prison saga.

Other cast includes Kate Mulgrew, Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, Dascha Polanco, Taryn Manning, Yael Stone, Jackie Cruz, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Michael Harney, and Nick Sandow.

The trailer, which is keen not to spill out any spoilers, offers a final, emotional message, “One color brought us together. One color inspired change. One color began a movement. One color gave us hope. Orange lives forever.”

The “epic conclusion” of the series is not just an emotional farewell for the cast and followers, but for Netflix too. ‘Orange is the New Black’ is one of the first original series in the Netflix programming slate alongside ‘House of Cards.’ Produced by Tilted Productions in association with Lionsgate Television, ‘Orange Is the New Black’ season 7 comes to Netflix on July 26, 2019.
