Coming from the well-known survival game subgenre, ‘Darwin’s Game’ is not one of those Isekai anime in which characters are magically summoned to gaming worlds. Instead, everything in it is in the real world but is a part of a game nonetheless. Packed with intense, gory, and nail-biting fight scenes along with a fairly intriguing storyline, ‘Darwin’s Game’ keeps you at the edge of your seat throughout.
It sure is not for everyone out there, especially not for anime viewers who despise violence, but anyone who loves intense action anime should certainly check it out. The ones who have already watched its first season must be wondering if it will ever return with a sequel. Well, here’s everything you need to know about its second season.
Darwin’s Game Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Darwin’s Game’ season 1 premiered on January 4, 2020 and with a total of 11 episodes, it finished airing on 21 March, 2020. The season came to end with a brief epilogue in which Kaname can be seen initiating the next event that involves hunting in the forest. This scene itself makes it pretty obvious that a new season is certainly happening. Although Studio Nexus (‘Granbelm‘) has not dropped an official date for its release yet, we can expect the ‘Darwin’s Game Season 2’ to release sometime in January 2021.
Just like the first season, Season 2 will probably be directed by Yoshinobu Tokumoto (‘Bakemonogatari‘, ‘Fairy Tail‘) and its script will be written by Shū Miyama. The original manga from which the anime has been adapted had entered its final arc on January 11, 2020 and currently has a total of 20 published volumes. Although the anime has made some of its own alterations to the source, it is a fairly loyal adaptation.
Considering this, the creators of the anime still have enough source material content for a whole new season. Even from a commercial standpoint, despite having graphic content, ‘Darwin’s Game’ has done seemingly well so far. So at this point, it is almost certain that it will return with a whole new season. Hopefully, we’ll soon get to hear some official news regarding it from the Studio’s end as well.

Darwin’s Game Season 2 Plot: What to expect?
As mentioned earlier, in the final moments of the first season, Kaname can be seen in the middle of a jungle where the hunting game is about to begin. From the looks of it, he will now try his best to completely end the game. But how does one end the game in the first place? In the previous season, it was established that to end the game, one has to first kill the organizer and then destroy the D-game.
So with Kaname as the leading force of the Sunset Ravens, which no includes Shuka, Rain, Ryuuji, and Sui, the clan will try to put a D-Game ban along with the Danjou Boxing Club. However, even with this plan, the biggest challenge they’ll face is the fact that the club is still not authorized to run safe D-Game matches. Meanwhile, back at Shibuya, smaller clans will make the foolish attempt of putting up their flags in the region, but Sunset Ravens will keep their word by destroying all these clans who dare to disrupt their security.
