Emile Hirsch has joined the cast of the upcoming action thriller ‘Force of Nature’ starring Mel Gibson and Kate Bosworth. The movie, which is produced by Emmett /Furla/Oasis Films, will feature Hirsch as a cop who finds himself in the middle of a bloody mess of a hurricane, a mysterious heist plan of a gang of robbers and a stubborn detective who refuses to evacuate, reports Deadline. Michael Polish is on board to direct the movie while Cory Miller wrote the script.
Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films’ Randall Emmett and George Furla produce the movie along with Luillo Ruiz. Tim Sullivan and Alex Eckert also join the project as executive producers. Christian Mercuri’s Bluebox International handles global sales.
The plot follows a retired detective who refuses to evacuate while all the other residents of the building are ready to move to safer places in the wake of a hurricane alert. A gang of criminals launches their massive plan of robbery with the chaotic evacuation as a cover. The detective has to deal with the robbers as well as the approaching hurricane at the same time with the help of Hirsch’s character.
‘Force of Nature’ is the second collaboration between Hirsch and producers Emmett and Furla. They previously worked together for the 2013 war drama film ‘Lone Survivor,’ which was written and directed by Peter Berg, starring Mark Wahlberg and Taylor Kitsch. The movie went on to become a success and grossed nearly $155M globally. Hirsch’s upcoming movie is the highly-anticipated ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘ directed by Quentin Tarantino, which is set for a July 26, 2019 release. Helmer Michael Polish has also worked with Emmett and Furla earlier for various projects.
The movie was one of the two Mel Gibson projects showcased at Cannes Film Festival this year. The actor has also signed on to play the role of Santa Claus in the upcoming action-comedy ‘Fatman,’ which is written and directed by Ian and Eshom Nelms. Gibson was last seen in the 2017 Christmas comedy from director Sean Anders, ‘Daddy’s Home 2,’ and ‘Dragged Across Concrete,’ a crime thriller came out in 2018 from writer-director S. Craig Zahler.
Apart from Gibson and Hirsch, Kate Bosworth reportedly plays a key role in ‘Force of Nature.’ The actress is known for her role in the National Geographic miniseries ‘The Long Road Home.’ She is also playing the lead in the upcoming sci-fi series ‘The I-Land,’ on Netflix. ‘Force of Nature’ is set to start production in July in Puerto Rico.
