Following the immense success of its dating reality shows like ‘Too Hot to Handle’, ‘Love is Blind’, and ‘Dating Around’, Netflix came up with yet another series, ‘Indian Matchmaking’. And this time, the focus is on the Indian culture, which is still heavily dominated by arranged marriages. The reality drama follows millennial singles as they are paired up with their potential other halves. The couples then need to decide if they wish to go ahead with the nuptials or not. Well, after an eventful first outing, here’s all you need to know about ‘Indian Marchmaking’ season 2.
Indian Matchmaking Season 2 Release Date:
‘Indian Matchmaking’ season 1 premiered on July 16, 2020, on Netflix, in all its entirety of eight episodes. The first season of the show concluded with one couple confirming their marriage while the rest were still seen contemplating their future. This leaves scope for the dating series to spawn another outing, giving fans more updates about the stars.
On the other hand, Netflix’s vice president of nonfiction series and comedy specials, Brandon Riegg, had already expressed his desire to expand the unscripted programming slate on the streamer. He said during an interview with Variety, “When I started the unscripted department, we knew that one category that we wanted to try to get into was relationship and dating and love, and those are hard shows to find … It’s a category of programming that we know people really love, and it’s our job to find the best shows.”
Of course, ‘Indian Matchmaking’ embraces a more traditional approach, devoid of dating apps, and social media interactions. But it still holds the potential to tap into the existing fanbase of other hit Netflix dating shows. If the response received from season 1 is in lieu of the streamer’s expectations, we should get news of another season in the upcoming months. Whenever that happens, we can expect ‘Indian Matchmaking’ season 2 to premiere sometime in Summer 2021.
Indian Matchmaking Season 2 Cast: Who Can be in it?
Sima Taparia, a world-renowned matchmaker, serves as the host, pairing up hopeful singles in the U.S. and India — eventually guiding them through the process of an arranged marriage. The wedding consultant considers the singles’ preferences, their parents’ choices, and uses her expertise in setting up a perfect, long-term relationship. Taparia is expected to make a comeback in season 2 as well.
In the first season, we meet a bunch of modern singles, residents of India and America, such as Mumbai and Texas. Some of the featured participants are Nadia, Pradhyuman, and Aparna, among several others. Season 2 should rope in a fresh bunch of singles, accompanied by a couple of returning faces whose futures are still up in the air in season 1’s finale.
