Kill la Kill Season 2: Premiere Date, Characters, Plot

Kill la Kill (also known as Kiru ra Kiru in Japanese) is an action anime television series produced by Trigger. Written by Kazuki Nakashima and directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, Season 1 of Kill la Kill premiered on October 4, 2013. On the same date, a show-based manga series, written by Nakashima and illustrated by Ryō Akizuki, was released. Both Season 1 of the show and the manga series created a stir in Japan, and a year later, two special episodes, under the title Kill la Kill Specials, were also released. Since then, fans of the show have been eagerly waiting for news on a second season. Here’s everything we know about the prospects of Season 2.

Kill la Kill Season 2 Release Date:

Kill la Kill season 1, consisting of 24 episodes, premiered on October 4, 2013 and the season finale was aired months later on March 28, 2014. Following the conclusion of Season 1, Kill la Kill Specials was released on September 3, 2014. Years have passed since then, but as it stands, Season 2 of Kill la Kill is yet to be confirmed.

This is slightly worrying if you’re looking forward to a new season. Anime television shows are usually renewed within few years of a season ending, and in most cases, a non-renewal in this time period signals the death of a show. While it has been more than five years since Kill la Kill Season 1 premiered, there’s still some time left before we can give up all hope. In the unlikely scenario of the anime getting renewed, our best guess is that ‘Kill la Kill’ season 2 release date could be sometime in 2021. We’re keeping our ears open for news on Season 2 of Kill la Kill, and we’ll update this section as soon as we hear more.

Kill la Kill Plot:

The show is set in a fictional high school called Honnouji Academy in the Tokyo Bay area, and it focuses on two schoolgirls – Ryuuko Matoi and Satsuki Kiryuuin.

The show starts off after Ryuuko’s father is murdered, and she sets out across the land in a quest to find his killer. Having only one lead – the missing half of an invention called the Scissor Blade – Ryuuko follows it and it brings her to the doorstep of the prestigious Honnouji Academy, which is a high school unlike any other.

Ruled by a fearsome student council led by the cold and ruthless Satsuki Kiryuuin, the Honnouji Academy is a place where the elite enjoy superhuman abilities. The elite students of the school, who are usually members of the student council, are given “Goku Uniforms” to wear. Made of a special material known as Life Fibers, these uniforms grant immense power to those who wear them.

When Satsuki reorganizes the allocation of Goku Uniforms through a battle royale and king-of-the-hill event called Naturals Election, Ryuuko decides that the time is right for her to challenge Satsuki and her Elite Four, and find the culprit behind her father’s murder. However, despite wielding one half of the Scissor Blade, Ryuuko does not have any superpowers and is beaten easily by a student in a Goku Uniform.

Having barely survived the encounter, Ryuuko thus retreats to her razed home to recover from her injuries. There, she stumbles across a sentient piece of clothing called Senketsu, which is made entirely out of Life Fibers. Senketsu gets activated by Ryuuko’s blood and gets fused to her, thus granting her enormous powers.

Armed with the Scissor Blade and her new superpowers, Ryuuko thus returns to Honnouji Academy hoping to defeat the Elite Four and face Satsuki. However, not all is as it seems, and as the show progresses, a sinister plot surfaces threatening the Earth with widespread destruction.

Kill la Kill Characters:

Despite having dozens of characters, Kill la Kill has only a handful of characters who are central to the plot of the show. Below, we’ve provided you with brief backgrounds on each of the main characters.

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD]

Ryuuko Matoi: The main protagonist of the show, Ryuuko is a 17-year-old who is trying to solve the mystery behind her father’s death. Her search for the truth leads her to Honnouji Academy, where she enrolls as a second-year student hoping to uncover the truth and find the culprit. Ryuuko wields a huge single bladed scissor, and she hopes to find the wielder of the lost half, knowing that it was the same person who killed her father. Later in the show, it is revealed that Ryuuko is the second daughter of the Honnouji Academy’s director, Ragyo, and the sister of the student council president, Satsuki.

Satsuki Kiryuuin: Another main character in the show, Satsuki is the 18-year-old president of the student council of the Honnouji Academy. A disciplinarian, Satsuki is known for ruling over the school with an iron fist. Although her lieutenants, the Elite Four, wear Goku Uniforms, Satsuki, for a long time in the show, does not wear one. Instead, she wields an extremely powerful blade called Bakuzan, which she claims is powerful enough for both offense and defense. Later, it is revealed that the Honnouji Academy is a fortress created by Satsuki to rebel against her mother Ragyo, who has sinister plans for all of humanity. Further, it is also revealed that Satsuki and Ryuuko are related by blood, and are biological sisters.

Senketsu: Senketsu is a living sailor uniform that Ryuuko finds underneath her razed house after she is initially defeated in a battle at the Honnouji Academy. Senketsu is revealed to be a rare type of clothing called Kamui (literally meaning God Clothes) made entirely of Life Fibers, and offers its wearer tremendous power in exchange for his/her blood. When Senketsu fuses himself to Ryuuko, she gains the ability to have an indestructible suit of armor around herself. The only issue is that Senketsu is quite skimpy, and the appearance of the outfit is often a cause of embarrassment of Ryuuko.

Mako Mankanshoku: The final main character in the show, Mako is a second-year student at the Honnouji Academy and a close friend of Ryuuko’s. However, she is not particularly adept at combat, and has a lowly rank in the school. Since a person’s rank in Honnouji Academy determines their living condition, Mako is shown to be living in the slums in the adjacent city.
