Minions The Rise of Gru: Everything We Know

Gaba Luba Sa! Poulet Tiki Masala! Gibberish was never as fun as the Minions have made it now. The cute, tiny yellow creatures have enjoyed massive popularity since they were introduced in the movie, ‘Despicable Me.’ Fun Fact: The Minions have actually said “Poulet Tiki Masala” which translates to Chicken Tikka Masala in French. The voice-over artist, Pierre Coffin who voices the minions has mentioned how he employs multiple food references in the nonsensical rubbish that the creatures are shown saying. The upcoming movie, ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ promises some more baloney, rib-tickling stupidity and an overload of cuteness.

It will be the fifth movie of the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise which started with the 2010 movie sharing the same name. It led to two direct sequels and a prequel/spin-off titled ‘Minions.’ ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ will serve as the sequel to ‘Minions.’ The franchise is the highest grossing animated movie series of all time, raking in $3.7 billion from all the movies. Moreover, it is also the fifteenth highest grossing movie series ever. Its success is unparalleled. One can expect ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ to fare well at the box office too. The movies are often promoted with tons of merchandise (most of which is designed by Mattel).

Minions: The Rise of Gru Plot: What is it About?

The title of the film suggests that the sequel to ‘Minions’ will focus on how the beloved yellow creatures came into contact with the ambitious super-villain, Felonious Gru. It can be assumed that the movie will function somewhat as an origin story. The movie is a sequel to 2015’s ‘Minions’ which was a spin-off of ‘Despicable Me.’

The 2015 film depicted how Minions evolved from yellow, single-celled organisms with the sole purpose of serving despicable masters. Over the course of human history, they found several villainous masters like Dracula, a T-Rex and Napoleon Bonaparte but they failed to keep any of them alive. Not ruled by anybody, the species begin to isolate themselves in a cave till Kevin, a brave minion decides to embark on a quest to find a new master. They find Scarlet Overkill, a villain who wants to steal the Imperial State Crown. (Spoiler alert) That movie ends with a young Gru stealing the crown that Scarlet had employed the minions to steal and the minions deciding that it is Gru that they wish to follow.
